52 | Oscar Bobb - 2025/26

His ability to wriggle between tight defences separates him from our other wing options. Looking forward to finally see more of him this season.

Not sure why people are waxing lyrical so much in here. Bobb is a fantastic player and had a good game but nothing extraordinary really, the pass for the assist was something that is expected for anyone to make in that situation, it was more Reijnders' finish that was great. Other than that he did reasonably well given Wolves' strong defending. Hope he continues to play like this, I agree that he is very reminiscent of young Bernardo Silva.
Well I’ve not seen many City players outside Kinkladze, Wright-Phillips, DSilva and Sané perform that initial bit of skill to get away from the Wolves player.

Plus the accurancy of the pass into space for Reijnders requires vision to ensure it is far enough away from the Wolves player to not get it and an understanding of the pace Reijnders is running at to know he’ll get on the end of it in space away from pressure and still be running at goal.

Loads of footballers don’t get passes like that right; they’re often too near the defender, to close to the teammate they’re passing to so they lose momentum of their run, overhit so the keeper comes out to clear it, or it’s miss-hit out wide so the teammate’s run goes off course… or they choose to pass to the striker thinking that’s the right choice because he’s the goal scorer, when the other player is the better option.

And that’s all decided on and executed in less than two seconds. And he did it with Reijnders not even breaking stride by the time he shot so the vision of the pass was perfect.

People are praising him and absolutely nothing to do with a really normal assist. You clearly don’t understand football and that’s fine mate

His quality on the ball was evident throughout the game. He always seems to have time and be in control in a way that very few players do. It will be fascinating to see him develop. I think he will play wide this season but may then move inside to be an 8. He could be the "pausa" midfielder of Pep's dreams.

Agreed. People are trying to make him into Cole Palmer, or David Silva whether he has their talent or not.

He's very good, but the jury is open.

I think it's more about his decision making.

He is nearly perfect, he always makes the right pass.

He always dribbles at the right time, and picks out a pass from his dribble more often than our other wingers.

He has this likely from his experience as a midfielder and his natural talent, but it really shines as a winger as well.

And his ability in pockets is so good.

And I'm sure this is only his floor, Bobb will be up there with Lamine Yamal as one of the top RWs this season, Yamal shows extremely similar traits.
I think from his comments, Pep was also very pleased with his defensive work. He tracked back well on at least 2 occasions to challenge on one and cut out a dangerous ball on the other

At first he reminded me a little bit of Sane, very talented with the ball at his feet but also liable to getting bullied when marked by a larger player. But you could see him grow more comfortable over the course of the match despite how Wolves were marking him, and that mental toughness and focus was really impressive.

First 5 second of the video shows why he has a higher ceiling compared to Sav and Doku, that quick glance to find his team mate, the quick glance behind to check if a defender is closing in on him and one more look for his team mate before putting the pass. It shows his positional awareness (both for himself and his team mate) and a sense of urgency. Running with the ball and keeping your head up is one of the most difficult part of the game for young attackers as most young attackers prioritize urgency over awareness so they get the ball run down as fast as they can with their heads down so they don't clumsily loose the ball and then hit the ball hard into the box without looking up to see if anyone was available to receive the pass / cross

That is what marks him as a special talent. His awareness but also his speed of feet and his weight of pass. I have the feeling at some point he is really going to rip a team to bits. Hopefully starting with Spuds.

Biggest difference between Oscar and all the other wide players we have is an inbuilt ability to find the right final pass more often than not. He is a real talent and you could see yesterday Wolves often had 3 players closing him down which left space all across the forward line.

BTW I don't agree with those on the match day thread that say "it's only Wolves" because I actually think they will be better than at least 5 or 6 teams this year despite losing a couple of key players.

A fully fit Oscar gives the team a great deal of balance & I loved seeing him get back and help defend too.
I agree. These “only Wolves” players are big professional sportsmen not some misty figures of the imagination that you can just go through. Bobb danced around them like they weren’t there. He’ll win plenty of penalties for a start.

Do you remember July 2024? City were basking in the glow of 4 back to back league titles on tour in the United States. Oscar Bobb had played some very promising games towards the end of the league season, most notably he scored one of our goals of a season with a late winner at Newcastle thanks in part due to a great pass from KDB. Bobb would follow this promising league form with an electric pre-season where he was the standout player in every game. I remember some discussion on Bluemoon as to what significance we could attach to pre-season games, and what constituted a World Class player. Then disaster struck. He broke his leg, and his recovery was hampered by additional injuries. Bobb just about made it back by the end of the season playing just a few minutes. By the opening game of this season, the memory of Oscar Bobb had faded somewhat and it probably surprised most blues to see him start on the right. I had expected that Cherki might start there but Oscar Bobb was back as if he had never gone away.

Those fans who were truly excited for Bobb 13 months ago, look like they were right.

I saw Bobb before he broke his leg, the ball seemingly stuck to his feet and the instinct/quick thinking he possessed and wondered if we would see the same player when he returned.
It looks like I needn't have worried!
A brave and skilful lad he is and City need to keep him.
What with Bobb and Reijnders it's like having 2x KDB's!

I think Bobb and Reijnders deserve praise but that is Ridiculous. De Bruyne is arguably the best midfielder we've ever had playing world class football for 10 years. Far too early to extol such high praise even though they both played really well. Let's see how they are in a season or two, or in 10 years.

I know, I know.
The rags big up their mediocre players all the time, so please allow me a little leeway to big up our players.
