Went to see Roy 'Chubby' Brown many years ago and by far his best line was "How come we can land a man on the moon but we can't land one on Martina Mavratilova".

I'm going to be in Ohio next month and a visit to the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum in his home town of Wapokaneta is on the to-do list.

Monumental achievement, I remember exactly where I was when the module landed, I was in a club in Ashton under line called The Birdcage on a Sunday night and about 10 or 11 o'clock the DJ announced that they have landed on the moon, we all went home later on that night and I stayed up nearly all night waiting for Neil Armstrong to step out of the module it was an awe inspiring moment for me.
I wagged college next day.

I used to go in the Birdcage as a school kid in the early 70’s, they actually had 2 cages with dancing girls in them but that was only for the adult nights. Tuesday’s were for kids over the age of 12 I think but we were restricted to the downstairs area only, over 18’s could go the upper area which had the bars open.

Was a great place for a young teenager, the girls at school were there dressed up as we’d never seen them in anything other than school uniforms. Funny that, as old perverts pay to see adults dressed as school girls now.

I hated school but looked forward to Tuesday nights so much. The Birdcage became Tiffany’s then a Roller Skating venue called Wheels, then closed. Prior to the Birdcage it was “Ashton Pally”, where my Mum and Dad met, and lots of others and was used in the Film “Billy Liar” which is a brilliant old black and white movie, written by Keith Waterhouse.
