59 years ago - Bert Trautmann's testimonial

Love these threads about old stuff even before I started going in '70.

In 40/50 years time if Bluemoon survives (Jones & Zager?) this sort of thing will be like talking about Hyde Rd,at least info will still be available this time.

Was there that night with two of my elder cousins I was allowed because it was my 9th birthday present. I’ll be 68 this Sunday, Where’s that time gone?
I can’t believe it was so long ago.
I was in Platt Lane that night, not sure why I was not on the Kippax.
I was just short of my 16th birthday.
City declared a gate of 45,000 but it was nearer 65,000. City paid Bert part of the difference many years later.
Bert was my first real City hero.

Fair play to all you loyal blues who were there then. You lot have personally witnessed half of the club’s entire history.
Not yet we haven't...

If we're talking 1894 there's another 11 years to go..

Or if it's my first match, I qualify next year for having watched City for half the club's history.

Too much watching Countdown now, I think.

Pretty sure this was my first match, very wet, scoreboard end, I was 7… the next was Leeds away.. don’t remember owt about the game though.

Quiz question. Which City player played in consecutive matches in three different divisions?
