Why would the quality of the defence be of any consequence when you're talking specifically about leadership? Put Dias in that bournemouth side, they're still getting relegated, would he then not be a leader because he was surrounded by shit? It's an irrelevance.That’s hardly a glowing recommendation. They got relegated.
Ake is the best of a very average bunch back there. Gvardiol goes from the sublime to the ridiculous in the space of 5 seconds and Akanji has looked like he couldn’t give a toss all season.
The only time we look like we have an actual defensive unit, is when Dias is playing. He comes in, lifts the quality of those around him and gives us at least some organisation back there. Without him, they are all doing their own thing.
Ake is a proven leader.
