6 | Nathan Ake - 2025/26

Has it been decided what's happening with him?
I suspect it will be upto him. I personally think he's got one last year in him. Great experienced option for us to fill in and also brilliant to bring on to see a game out. His experience also becomes more important with so many departures.

The question will be whether that is enough for him, if he wants one final go at being first choice he may opt to move on and we surely won't stand in his way. Hope we keep him and he recognizes his career lengthens if he accepts a lesser role. We won't find anybody better to do that role.

We kept John Stones despite his fitness issues but if he wants more game time then we probably have to move him on as we are already well covered.

Imagine where we’d be as a team if Ake, Stones and Kovacic had been fit all season. Title is wrapped up in January, I think we beat Real, Rodri probably isn’t rushed back from injury etc.

I absolutely adore those lads but we’re carrying too many injury prone players. It just fucks the season up, it’s not their fault but us going into the season with those 3, Doku who is always injured and Rodri with a torn ACL - 1/4 of the squad was injured for significant time.

I think we should be thinking about 1-2 injury prone players max.

Best ability is availability etc.

I did wonder about him on the last day of the season. It felt a bit sad that Stones & Bernardo got the goodbye they did while Ake might well end up going but got nothing. I know we couldn't do anything because there's nothing definite, plus he didn't play as many games as either of them, but it still seemed like a situation where he deserved more somehow.

Was the best LB in the world the treble year. He was unreal for us despite struggling when he first arrived.

Ake was great then. And when he got injured vs Bayern, Akanji replaced him at LB vs Arsenal and Real (both legs) and we played even better: 4:1 vs Arsenal and 4:0 vs Real.
