Great site but don't know why they laugh at the soil erosion bit under "environment".

-- Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:48 pm --

Thankfully supply & demand will ensure that City are dominant until long after we run out of food.

This is why I'm not having kids. I'm cruel enough to say "tough shit" to the developing world but I'm not cruel enough to do that to my own child.

terra nova, set in the future.

the population of earth exceeds the output of the earths resources and people are restricted to 2 children per family.

in the end, the earth starts to die and gifted families or indivduals are chosen to go back in time and colonise earth in the prehistoric ages, with hope of having another go and not killing the planet

the rest are left on earth to die with the planet

but then because they have gone back in time to have another go without killing the planet, they are automatically changing the history of the planet so the people in the future won't be dying?

i was gonna write that too, but cba ;p

They don't work this out via some kind of official registration, as has been said, that would be impossible. This is merely a mathematical model which maps global population and predicts the population at any one time in the future.

Given this, I can't see the global population continuing to rise for much longer. Some people think we will reach peak population by as soon as 2040. I'm of the opinion that we wont go over 9 billion. This boom in population is due to the rest of the world industrialising itself in places like India. Once they become better developed, then education and medical standards will increase. Many countries in the world already have a decelerating rate of growth. We ourselves are not far from this.

It's not a perpetual thing and it wont go on forever, it's just a matter of 'when' it will slow and eventually start to drop and 'if' we have the resources to cope until then.

Agreed which I think covers why they are predicted it takes to 2100 to reach 10billion and not sooner (if we are gaining a billion every 12 years).

Education, health and safety, contraception, middle class 2.2 child concept etc. etc. Population must eventually curb itself. Having said that, go to the hispanic and black ghettos , and the white trash trailer parks in the states and see how many children are being pumped out (sorry for that not sounding very good) and you will see that even such 'developed' western nations like the U.S (where apparently the best healthcare and education and government should be) have booming birth rates. You would think that people who cannot afford children would not have children, yet the people with the most children, are the poorest (or Mormon and religious bible bash fuckers) regardless of race or creed. Makes more sense for the richest people to have lots of children, and not the poorest. I suppose what is the one thing that will always be free though.....sex...unprotected sex. What does that bring? Yup...population increases!!
