Since the start of 20/21 season Cancelo makes the top 5 in the whole league both wrt through balls and completed passes. No other player in PL history has been capable of such a feat: normally, those with the most through balls are nowhere near the top 5 of the players with most completed passes, and vice versa. Except for Cancelo: great in the build up play from the back (most touches over a season in PL history), great at creating chance at the other end. Unique player.

Time he had a song

I think it was against West Ham when he skinned someone and I turned to my mate and said our left back is better than any of West Ham's forward players! Guy is so talented, great on the ball and a real key to the way we play. I wish he could tackle a little better but we are truly blessed to have him.

He is actually better than all our wingers as well.

True, but unfortunately its coincided with him losing the ability to defend.

I guess its a case of positives outweighing negatives.
I dont think he ever had it. Reports when we were signing him from Juve were that he was great going forward, not so great the other way

Cancelo is like a test whether you get Pep's concept of defending.

Last season, City had the best defence in Europe in terms of conceded chances per 90 minutes. Yet two of the most criticised players on here were Cancelo and Laporte. They played the most minutes from all City players, but some on here thought that City had the best defence in spite of them...

Cancelo's one of the best players in the league. He'll leave City as one of the legendary full backs in PL history.
I think Peps idea of defending is to win the ball back high up the pitch through pressing. Cancelo is very good at this so I would think Pep counts that as being a good defender.
