There was one attack in the first half when Kevin got the ball and drove forward with Foden closely marked to his far right and Marmoush to his close left with space around him. It was crying out for Marmoush to make a run into the gap but instead he slowed himself down and let Kevin run ahead of him and into a wall of a rags defence.

Giving up making the runs already, he probably knows by now it isn't coming.

Don’t really agree with that. Here are the heat maps

If anything, they both led the line but Marmoush was definitely the furthest forward on a lot of occasions, as seen by the many futile attempts to play him in behind. KDB also moved around a fair bit.

I get what you mean but tbh, I'm not sure that's even a criticism of the player - more how Pep wants them to play or views his ability. For what it's worth, he has looked better moving in off the left with an overlapping player, but I do think he can work as a no9
Not sure the heat maps disagree with anything i said. Out of possession Marmoush played off the left, foden off the right, kdb false 9. In possession kdb would wander to pick up the ball and find space as he always does and marmoush would come inside and be the furthest man up with foden doing similar from the right. When Doku came on for foden he went and did Marmoush's role with marmoush doing it from the right instead and kdb remained as the false 9.

I wasn't criticising him, not sure why you've assumed that I just pointed out he wasn't playing as the 9 today despite Haalands absence and that's going to be an issue for us in the future if it persists.

You stated KDB played upfront and Marmoush played off the left - playing upfront is different to playing false 9, as false 9 drops deeper rather than playing upfront. Not entirely sure false 9 comes into it out of possession either, as they just act as a normal forward OOP. But, horses for courses.

The second paragraph is aimed at Pep then, as it's down to him where the players play?

Thought he showed more fight and commitment than a lot of them. He's a cracking player and Wil prove to be a very good signing in the new team. At the moment we don't really know what his role is because the team is a bit of a Frankenstein's monster at the moment

In terms of positioning, Omar reminds me a bit of Thomas Müller but he's technically more gifted and noticeably faster. He’s excellent at quick one-twos and has a strong awareness of his surroundings. Today is probably his best performance overall for us (i know he scored a hattrick against newcastle).

He’s quality. Was scared he’d be a Werner due to the amount of space they have to run into in the Bundesliga but he’s really surprised me. Technically brilliant.

Good performance and work rate, which has been my biggest criticism, bar some selfish shooting.

Improves his finishing and he'll be bagging 20+ in the league alone to say the least

KdB false 9 and Marmouah off the left works right now.

Having O Reilly hold the width on the left is why it works.

Not sure if others will agree but I've been impressed by his technical ability a lot more recently than I was when he arrived. Seemed to have improved his ball control and dribbling

Another game another goal, boy have we missed someone other than Haaland who can consistently score.
