7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

This was a bit of an odd signing for me - although I bow down to those in the know at our club and and admit it could still all work out great.

No point comparing him to left wingers really. We bought him to cover upfront as well as play cutting in from the left. I don't think he is outstanding in either role, but he can do both, so maybe fit the bill for what we needed squad-wise.

But he'd basically had 1 and a half good seasons in his whole career at the time we signed him. And he isn't young. He's done nothing up to then.

Maybe things have clicked, maybe he's progressed, maybe he's just what we need - but it just seemed a really "un-City" transfer to me when we did it. I still dont quite get it.

Good, we need players to score goals not provide because we have players who can do that. Marmoush can play as a left winger or a main striker so he's versatile.

I am not saying kvara is shit all I am saying is that he isn't better than Marmoush.
Kvara provides and scores. Also the numbers he did at Frankfurt are numbers he won’t recreate here. Also all I said is that kvara would’ve been the better choice since he is an actual winger - now we bought someone for 80M who doesn’t have a real position in our system. He isn’t the best dribbler neither was he clinical in the last games.

I shouldn’t entertain the last sentence. I think we’ve all been watching football the last 3 years and also especially this year the moment he joined the PSG squad.

Very accurate, in fact 100% bang on.....he also has an awful 1st touch alot of the time, which (Haaland aside) is not the type of player you would associate with Pep.

The real question is..

Why "the best manager in the world" persist with Marmoush as a left winger?

Clearly he's shit there. The only two games we played him as a striker off Haaland we won both and he got a hat trick in one of them.

Imagine criticizing Marmoush when he's playing out of his position.

Playing Marmoush as a left winger is like playing Gundogan as a right winger.

Mahrez must wince when he sees mamush try and take a ball down from height. Not good enough

He looked good in Germany because he got to play his natural position, as a LS.

Then last season when we adopted a sort of 4222... he got to play LS... usually, and he looked good.

Now the current 433 could work if the LB overlapped and he could somewhat permanently stay in that sorta LS half space because Pep doesn't use him like that, and I think we need to start getting the best out of him and RAN, it's a natural pairing.

That being said, his finishing when he gets chances anywhere on the right side of the pitch is comical, he needs to work on that.

Congratulations for him scoring more goals when he literally played as a striker while kvara is a winger. Marmoush also scored more than Vinicius, so? No one will say he is the better player.
If it comes to the LW position they are leagues apart. Marmoush best position doesn’t exist in our system. So his full potential might never be reached here.
Meanwhile the Georgian is an actual winger. Doubt he would’ve failed the first touch during the Cherki pass. Marmoush would’ve been through if he got that
when we realise that bald fraud is out of his depth they'll be a position for him

Its mind blowing the slaggings we give our own players. I'd hazard a bet that if he were able to pick where he plays, it wouldn't fucking be on the left despite what he's said. Play this lad up front from time to time, give defences something different to think about.

It'll never happen, he'll never find a proper rhythm, the slaggings continue. Its the circle of bellends.

Makes one wonder why we bought him then. Square pegs in round holes can work with some players but others can struggle with it, we'll see which one Marmoush ends up being.
I hope he makes it, seems like a talent to me but needs to be utilised properly.

I guess he's not trying to play him as a left winger.

That's the position on the pitch he fills at times, but he doesn't want him going down the left-wing, in fact, he mainly just wants him popping up in the area in decent goalscoring positions. Which he's managed to do, just not taken his chances.

Curious as to what you want people on here to say? I think most realize he is playing out of posistion, but that's where he plays for us, so people judge him against our other wingers.... that's fair, no?

Are you still saying give Kalvin Phillips a chance, or were you upset when we finally sent Jo packing? Support the players, of course, but they're footballers; they are not above criticism, especially on a fan forum where we discuss their performances.

That finish was so disappointing, I know you wouldn't of thought it would pretty much be our chance of the game, but just to batter it straight into the keeper, come on. Hard and low, or high at the near post, or clip it over the keepers feet, do something. Like he just wanted to get it on target and hope. We need better from him.

I'm saying we've got some proper whoppers in the fan base these days that love nothing more than to make it about individuals. Constructive criticism is one thing, blatant slagging is another. There's not a lot constructive on here after a defeat.

The whole team were poor on Saturday, no need to single out any individual.

Really poor finish, it was basic, all he thought about was hitting it in the direction of the goal. 280K a week, be cuter than that, it was begging to be chipped over the keepers back leg.

My only concern about him is his lack of shooting range. As in, range of techniques.

He has one. And that’s to thunderbastard it in - whether that’s from 40 yards or 6. Sometimes it works for him (it’s nice to have that danger from long range) but other times you need to be cleverer with your finishing. Especially close to goal because keepers are on you immediately more times than not. Haaland is the master of it, he either chips it or delays it perfectly while he waits for the keeper to move then finishes it.

The chance against Spurs at the weekend was the perfect example. Haaland would’ve lifted it. Aguero would’ve slotted it near post along the floor. The finish that wasn’t the one to go for was just blindly hitting it in the general direction of the goal as hard as you can. Needed a lot more finesse.

Luckily, the fact he’s a natural goal scorer already I think it’s just a matter of teaching/implementing composure rather than a whole new way of finishing for him.

Everything else I think he’s mint at. Brings us some much needed energy and urgency to our attack rather than players who want to score through pretty patterns and passing. He’d rather just get it done and in the net as quickly as possible. His first touch can be hit and miss but I think we’ve been spoilt by Grealish and especially Mahrez on the wing in the past few years where the control would be magnetised to their feet.
