7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

Has anyone else noticed that he gasses out after about 60 minutes when he starts?

I thought he was better vs Brighton and certainly had some moments, but he is still really inconsistent for me.

I think you give him the season and certainly try fitting him in the squad, I don't think he is a disaster as some are saying. I think there are certainly flaws in his game, and at his age, I don't know how much better he is going to get, but can certainly be useful this season if we can find a way to get him in the team in a place he is comfortable.

I think his best position in our squad is either partnering up with Haaland at the top or right behind the striker, but we already have Phil and Cherki for that role, so I don't know how much time he will be able to get there.

I’m not clear what he was bought for. What role did we see him fulfilling. Straight Haaland deputy? False nine? Wide man? Twin striker? He has tried all of these and imo not really nailed any of them. That’s not his fault mind but we seem to be buying players that look good and are available rather than being very specific about what we need to improve our squad in each position.

Phil rarely fit and Cherki not proven (and injured). Marmoush should be allowed to try to make the 10 spot his. Then it's up the others to displace him.

100% agree. There’s no real sign of a coherent recruitment strategy. It’s starting to go eerily similar to that of the rags which saw them plummet.

He pairs with Erling better than Julian and we clearly need a #10 where Julian was tried but his first touch let him down even though the goals were there.

And Julian wanted to leave as he didn't want to be behind Erling..

I don't see him as a winger, I see him in the KDB role as he's performed better than anyone else over the last season.

I get you're saying he's not KDB.. but he's better than anyone else in that position and we've tried a few players there. He will link up for assists.

What I find befuddling is he was the free kick taker in Germany and then took a few here and decent ones even though he didn't score.

It seems he's been pushed off that and is being tried in a different role.. so ofcourse his production will be down compared to Germany.

The worst part is we haven't looked like we're scoring off corners/ free kicks in years!

His problem is that he tries to do everything

This is precisely the issue. He's a very confident player, but he might be fooling himself with some of the things he tries. It's frustrating when he puts his head down and over-dribbles when he's not that kind of player.

As long Cherki is injured I would try him behind Haaland. We have no other choice to be honest. We need more speed on the offensive side so him - savinho and Doku might be the way we have to go. At least our counters might get more effective

Probably a similar set up to Bournemouth at home would probably suit him and us best at the moment. Decent points but can’t believe you’re knocking Alvarez over first touch whilst comparing him to Marmoush. Marmoush has an awful first touch for a professional footballer never mind one that cost so much money

Recency bias!

I remember these very forums being full of crap on Julian for his first touch.

Omar's is much better.. it is what it is.. he's not Mahrez but he's much better.

And Omar and Julian basically cost the same.. because we spent Julian's money on Omar and still had 20m left!

Yeah, his wasn’t good but neither is Marmoush’s. Like comparing Savinho and Jezza for end product!

Not saying Marmoush is bad player by any stretch but for the money we paid just seems to sum up the strange signings we’ve continued to make for a good while. He doesn’t like to lead the line on his own like Alvarez could. He’s mostly been played from the left but everyone says that’s not his best position, doesn’t play on the right. So just off Haaland but it’s a position he’s rarely been deployed for us.
