7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

He is what he is. A good backup striker for Haaland at this level. He shouldn't really be playing in any other role on the pitch.

I don't blame him for his performance yesterday. He was put in a role he simply can't do well in a side that tactically didn't work while he was on.

I don't mind him at all, he can do a job for us when used correctly. Wouldn't mind if he moved on though. Plenty of decent clubs would take him as their main striker and he would do well.

I think he needs a team to be built around him, not great at adapting himself, if he is allowed the luxury of being the main man I think he would flourish

Doesn’t pout. Puts in a shift when called on. No he’s not as good as Alvarez. But no striker of that caliber is going join a team as a back up to the main man. Hes a good squad player.

I stand by my assessment.

Better than Jesus, Close with Dzeko.

Look at the league, other than maybe Isak.. would you buy any of them to play backup striker to Haaland?

Not a chance he's as good as Dzeko or Jesus.

Look at Marmoush's history and you'll see a player who's had 1 good season by the age of 26. There are so many of the basics that we need that he fails at.

There was a time for us when Pep preferred Jesus to Aguero. Would we see that with Marmoush? Would we fuck.

Different position, but we bought another Kalvin in Marmoush. I'd be surprised if we see him again for us now tbh.

That's fair, he does give it a go, but when it comes down to it he just isn't good enough for what we need.

I'd much prefer us to go for a young highly rated striker who'd be making a step up and as such be happy to be a backup for a year or two. Marmoush would have been ideal for that role if he was 19, but he's 27 now.

I know we were linked with some young Brazilian striker, no idea if true or if any good even, but that's the kind of profile to look at as backup.

He’s alright in some games but he’s not really good enough often enough. He’s a sort of Fulham, West Ham level player and we really need better even as back up.
It will forever be a revolving position because nobody is going to sit around as a second choice.

I dont know what the tactics were supposed to be yesterday, he got himself in some decent positions but nobody in the team passed the ball forwards so he was stuck isolated.

The criticism is too harsh. It wasn't really his fault he wasn't in the game and i don't think Cherki was a substantial improvement in his defence but yeah, he wasn't in the game. Setup rendered him useless. Problem is he just doesn't have a position.
Its not like the Cherki sub did much.

It was really the Kovacic sub that had the big impact.

That being said, playing all 3 of Haaland, Marmoush and Semenyo is a no go for me.

All 3 are strikers, play only 2 imo at most.

Guardiola acknowledged that he had expected Chelsea to line up differently.

Whatever his role maybe still amazed by the 290K weekly wages. Difficult to shift even when I see a lot of Newcastle and Aston Villa fans wanting him because the salary is more than their highest paid player.
That salary is too much for a backup striker.

I wonder if his 290k a week is like the 70 mil for Savinho.

No verification.. just the media printing something to rile people up about City.. like make rumors up about Pep leaving..

I don’t believe for a second that he’s on that. He wouldn’t have been on mega money at Frankfurt so there would be no need to make him one of the highest earners

I expect he’ll be on 150ish. No way the number starts with a two

He wasn't good yesterday, but like all our attackers in the first half, we lacked a playmaker, with Doku being very well taken care of by Chelsea.

Again, he's a good player, but he excels more in a team that plays on the counter-attack, exploding into open space, than in a structured attack. He's a player who needs space. His value is still very high, and in the current market, he's still worth between £55 and £60 million.

It would be terrible for him and for us to keep him next season just to play 15 games when Haaland needs a rest.

The question we should be asking ourselves about Omar is:

1. Is he better than Bony? Obviously yes
2. Is he better than Balotelli? Obviously yes
3. Is he better than Jesus? Obviously yes
4. Is he better than Negredo? Probably yes.
5. Is he better than Dzeko? Probably yes but close.
6. Is he better than Julian? Probably no but close.
7. Is he better than Tevez? No, not in a million years.

So if he's between Dzeko and Julian levels.. maybe just maybe, he's better than we think or like to give him credit for just like a lot of our players over the years!

1. That's a pretty low bar
2. I'd put him around there, has moments of brilliance, but nowhere near consistent enough
3. I think people forget how technically versatile and aggressive Jesus was for us; he also didn't cost what Omar cost
4. Negredo at his peak here (However short it was) was far better than Omar
5. Dzeko hit 50 in 130 in some crucial games and delivered when needed
6. He is not even in the same stratosphere as Julian. Julian is a world-class top 5-10 in the world striker
7. Yeah, not even close.

The problem with Omar is that we bought him under the premise that he could be versatile and play off on the left as well as a 10 and fill in for Erling when necessary. He has not done anything at the level necessary for him to justify getting minutes. He was putrid on the left when we tried him there; he did not work as a 10 with Erling and the others. and when he has had to fill in for Erling, he has been... mediocre. It's the curse of Frankfurt strikers, They play great in Frankfurt when the entire team is built around there strengths and it allows them to cover over the flaws, but the moment they go to a team where they have to adapt, they can't do it. Just look at the list

1. Andre Silve
2. Randal Kolo Muani
3. Luka Jovic
4. Sebastien Haller
5. Hugo Ekitike (Jury is still out)
