He is shocking on 1 on 1's without a doubt, but to say he only scores tap in's........ have you forgot the free kick he scored against Palace?
True, and it shows you can have an important impact even if you're not the best baller. He was instrumental in the first goal and scored the second tonight to seal the game. That'll do for me.
Doubt either of them will start at left back as I fully expect Walker to be on the right and Cancelo left. Surely Foden starts on the left and his work rate is superb and Sterling starts on the right. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mahrez starts over Jesus with Mahrez and Sterling switching positions now and then. It's obvious that he is not in his best form, but in a way that really doesn't matter, as the potential danger he can cause forces the opponents to set up in a specific way, to mark him as IF that potential transformed into outcome.
When he gets the ball, it always feels and looks like somethings about to happen, he pick's up speed, faces the opponents... and previously he has caused a lot of damage to opponents. So even though it's not really clicking for him atm, opposing managers have to tactically play him as if he will cause havoc.
And I guess the only way making him find his form again is to continue to play him, but Christ, - he can sometimes frustrate the hell out of me, with really poor first touches, unsuccessful dribbles, getting into fantastic positions only to freeze up.
Anyway, he's a fantastic player and we're lucky to have him in out squad. And pretty soon he will find his way back to his prime.
Though I'm not sure I would start him against Liverpool... it's a tricky choice to make. His pace and work rate would be useful on the left wing against Sallad, as neither Laporte or Zin are speedy enough.
A fit Harry Kane would get 50 a season playing for us. Even our best at 1 on 1's (Sergio) is pretty crap at it tbh.Mind blowing isn’t it?! Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez, even DeBruyne, they’re all fucking hopeless at it. Sterling seems to either overrun it straight into the keeper or hesitate until someone gets a block in, Jesus and Mahrez specialise in powderpuff fudges straight at the keeper, and Kev seems given to dragging the ball wide. The only one I even halfway expect to convert a 1 on 1 chance now is Foden. The irony is that from general play they all score their fair share, but 1 on 1, when a modicum of composure is required, they bottle it time after time. Particularly galling when, as you say, Steptoe, Rashford and Salah seem to tuck them away with relative ease
With his form and record at Anfield, he should get well wrapped up for a bench seat on SundayDoubt either of them will start at left back as I fully expect Walker to be on the right and Cancelo left. Surely Foden starts on the left and his work rate is superb and Sterling starts on the right. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mahrez starts over Jesus with Mahrez and Sterling switching positions now and then.
