Because Pep started playing him in midfield again instead of stuck out on the right wing as he was for the previous year
So we should cut him some slack then for not being able to control the ball, fail to hit a barn door and run up blind alleys and blame Pep for all of the above

No. The problem is you don’t always KNOW whether a particular player will bounce back.
Spot on. I am tired of lazy journalists saying (not of Sterling, but generally of young players) "he will only get better". What nonsense. Some players plateau and some get worse. I wonder if Chelsea thought "he will only get better" or "he will bounce back" when they bought Torres from Chelsea? How did that turn out.

How come Bernardo didn’t get this same kind of commentary when he was crap for 14 months?
That’s because he wasn’t crap for 14 months.

He was brilliant through the Winter last season, which coincided with being immediately after the Tweet incident outcome which shows his form had had nothing to do with that Tweet for those that think it did n’all.

Let's pose a hypothetical (but maybe not that hypothetical) question. There's a meeting in the boardroom with Soriano, Begiristain, Guardiola, De Vries, Berrada, the CFG and City finance guys and they're planning out the summer transfer activity.

Txiki says "We've got a deal for Haaland pretty well hammered out but I need to know if we can afford it and meet FFP" The Finance guys say "Losing Aguero helps but it's not enough so we'd have to sell Sterling to be sure. He's only on the books at a nominal value so a fee over £65-70m will do it easily, which we believe we should easily be able to get."

Do they say "Nah, we'll keep Sterling and offer him more as he might come good again next season even though he hasn't really been on great form the last 2 seasons"? Or do they say "We're getting a proven top-class goal-scorer who fills Aguero's position and who we'll hopefully keep for 10 seasons as well. Let's do it"?

Love him, but he can't start on Wednesday. Plays a lot like Mahrez used to when he first got here. Spends too much time on the ball. And tries too hard to play hero ball.

Just keep it simple. Your greatest strengths are your speed and movement. Lean into that. And less on trying to create your own shot or be the spark.

It's making things worse :(

Sterling has just having a bad season by his brilliant standards. I’m sure he’ll be back to his best at some point. No need to treat him he’s a stain on the club. Always makes me a bit uncomfortable since he gets spoken about in a different tone to other players.

For what it’s worth, he wouldn’t be in my XI at the moment either but I don’t feel the need to cast this dark sins yet shadow over him. He’s one of our lads and he’s done brilliant things for us.

I know which option I would take
