That's quite simple. He never got the run of games Sterling was afforded to regain his form. How come Bernardo didn’t get this same kind of commentary when he was crap for 14 months?

So thats what must be effecting his game now thenSterling has faced more media abuse than our entire playing squad combined.
So we should cut him some slack then for not being able to control the ball, fail to hit a barn door and run up blind alleys and blame Pep for all of the aboveBecause Pep started playing him in midfield again instead of stuck out on the right wing as he was for the previous year
Spot on. I am tired of lazy journalists saying (not of Sterling, but generally of young players) "he will only get better". What nonsense. Some players plateau and some get worse. I wonder if Chelsea thought "he will only get better" or "he will bounce back" when they bought Torres from Chelsea? How did that turn out.No. The problem is you don’t always KNOW whether a particular player will bounce back.
That’s because he wasn’t crap for 14 months. How come Bernardo didn’t get this same kind of commentary when he was crap for 14 months?
Let's pose a hypothetical (but maybe not that hypothetical) question. There's a meeting in the boardroom with Soriano, Begiristain, Guardiola, De Vries, Berrada, the CFG and City finance guys and they're planning out the summer transfer activity.
Txiki says "We've got a deal for Haaland pretty well hammered out but I need to know if we can afford it and meet FFP" The Finance guys say "Losing Aguero helps but it's not enough so we'd have to sell Sterling to be sure. He's only on the books at a nominal value so a fee over £65-70m will do it easily, which we believe we should easily be able to get."
Do they say "Nah, we'll keep Sterling and offer him more as he might come good again next season even though he hasn't really been on great form the last 2 seasons"? Or do they say "We're getting a proven top-class goal-scorer who fills Aguero's position and who we'll hopefully keep for 10 seasons as well. Let's do it"?
