Here's just an exhaustive list of players that over the last year or so the player forum has at some point decided just won't cut it for us and maybe be should nudged out if the door. The bolded players are the ones who at some point got such a visceral reaction as to be completely written off and/or demanded to be sold immediately on numerous occasions.

You have to marvel at the miracle of how well we've down these past 4 years with such an average collection of players. Either that or everyone else stinks even more in which case our achievements should be played down as much as they are.

Posters struggle to see that the club take an extremely measured and long term approach to things. They don't flap after a bad moment or few, such as yesterday. The club acknowledges that these personnel got them to where they are today and remembers that during down periods. Posters also struggle to see that the club is unafraid of moving players on if necessary; if anyone genuinely wasn't good enough they'd have been sold or loaned out by now.

As always there is a load of valid debate to be had (particularly in this thread with Sterling going through a though patch) but some of the OTT comments in this and many other threads is forever going to make up for a disappointing read, for a variety of reasons sadly.

That’s such a wank post.

Think its worrying that people don't see how Sterling is a great player

Hes in dogs shit form atm but guess what.. that fucking happens...hazard flip floped from player of the year to unfit at Chelsea and Mane is playing like a championship standard player this year

He is player who has socred and assisted so many goals despite not being a great striker of the ball and do you know why? Because he is a great player with great understanding and positional awareness that Pep trusts him

Hes 26 and is arguably having his only poor (not awful) season since Pep arrived

All that said....his contract situation makes it uncertain what the club should/could do

Think Pep loves having Sterling, his ability to be in the right position and the right time is testament to his understanding of our tactics

But he is in poor form, and giving him £300k p/w is something that may come to bite us as he won't accept less but he's arguably not worth that now

Think if we could get £75mil for him we should take it....but don't underestimate how good a player he is

Rather than be provocative and only fan the flames in an already hostile thread, I challenge you to write an actual reply.

People are allowed to criticise.

Sterling is one of the most senior members in the squad, he didn’t start on Wednesday in the CL and it was his turn yesterday to show up and do his bit, and he didn’t. Same the week before against Leeds in the Prem.

The drop off in form and enthusiasm in some of our players is definitely a concern. We’ve got players that appear to be doing their upmost to drag us through every competition we’re in, and others who aren’t stepping up when it’s their time to do so. Sterling currently falls into the latter.

It’s a football forum, ofcourse people are going to go OTT, especially after half arsed performances like yesterday.

Yes people are going to criticise and of course many are going to be OTT about it. And as they're allowed to do what they do, so am I when I spotlight such posts and I how I feel they're misguided.

Anyone been on yet with stats to prove he’s the PL’s best player?
As I said last night the happy clappers will re-emerge around Tuesday with the usual crap about confidence, out of form how dare you assume the right to criticise a travelling journeyman on £250k+ a week. And the classic do you know he reads this and you are directly responsible pmfsl..... get rid whilst he’s got residual value and save 60m in wages.
The media for the wrong motives are helping for once this morning...come on Real Madrid let’s get Franco’s euros out

All footballers generally follow a life cycle wrt their ability ( improving, plateud & declining) and I posed this question earlier to BS, but can only assume he missed it.

In terms of Sterling, where do people see him as of today?

Sterling is the same situation that John Stones had found himself in for the last couple of season. I am not saying it isn't not down to him to knuckle down, but he is a very good example of what can be achieved in terms of completely turning it around amongst us lot.
