I mean, if you had to guess, what would you think is the club's reasoning behind why they are apparently set to offer Sterling an improved deal?
You can only sell a player who is under contract?

For the life of me, I can’t believe he is considered in the same breath, let alone wage range, as our top players.

HE CAN’T GET A GAME!!!

Its disappointing Raheem isnt in his best form because on his day he would prove to be a potential match winner , just our luck probably our most consistent goal scorer over the last few seasons cannot hit a barn door at the moment and just before one of our biggest games in our history
Hope he scores a hat trick against Everton plays a blinder and gives Pep something to think about.
From your lips….

I’d love nothing more, because he seems to have the physical attributes, but his mental game is Sunday League at times!

Not sure about his mentality he appears a determined little so and so but he is bereft of confidence at the moment , its weird that brilliant players like Sterling can fall off a cliff form wise and not just for a few games , its been all season.
But he's still top of the league :)

Yeah but why improved terms? Why parity with our highest earners? There's got to be a better reason than because they can sell him? In fact, offering such huge wages makes it more difficult to sell him as it prices everyone out. Besides, he has two years left on his deal, so if the club wanted to sell him they'd have plenty of time to do and even get a decent fee in the process.

Surely you'd assume the club's got a more legitimate reason behind offering him improved terms? What do you sincerely think the club's reasoning is?

Are the new terms in the public domain or is it an assumption he is getting a hefty pay rise?

In all seriousness, it could be said that any contract offer is a gamble - Poor form, injuries, suspensions etc, can all come into play, as can an unexpected change of attitude, Wilfried Bony being a classic example...

The main thing that City's hierarchy are sure of is that Raheem Sterling is a quality player. He's (apparently) well liked by everyone at the club, and doesn't cause problems in the dressing room. History shows he's has always given his best for the club, and has scored/created goals more often than not over his City career.

By offering him a new contract (even on more money), the club's only gamble is on him recapturing his previous form. To be honest, there's a good chance that working in a different system for England will give him the kickstart he needs over the summer, particularly if it's playing alongside a potential City signing.

Let's face it - If Raheem signs up for another five years and 'flops' in the first year, we'd still get £40m+ for him. It's a no-brainer for me. The lad is a proven winner, and I'd rather see him playing for City than any of our opponents.

Just take out the hook & bait and show us the fish!

I mean, help me out here. You've posted some very reasonable arguments as to why Sterling doesn't merit an improved deal, and here he is set to get one.

So either the club's management have suddenly gone bonkers, or there is some method to the madness that's being ignored on these forums.

You seem like a smart man, so help me out….what is it?!

You keep fishing for my answer. What’s yours?

Maybe the answer is a new contract is cheaper than the transfer fee to replace him, especially considering his transfer value this season must be at an all time low since we plucked him out of the Bin!

Again, what’s your analysis?

Because he's very good at football, the club believe in his talent, they recognize his 79 goals from 2017-2020 as being more indicative of his quality than this season's turn of form, and he's extremely marketable.

I'm fishing for an answer because I believe that the people who don't believe Sterling merits an improved deal (which is a more than reasonable opinion) seem to either be completely unaware of why the club is apparently offering him better terms or they're ignoring it (for the most part). It helps me understand your position and line of reasoning when I know whether you understand the club's reasoning and are arguing against it, ignoring it, or whether you don't know and are simply arguing against Sterling getting an improved deal in general.
