They all have to adapt at times , he will as well
he's not technically gifted enough to, which is why he's struggling so much. His saving grace may be Kane teaching him how to be Son and using him to run in behind when Kane drops deep. Other than that, I don't see much for him.

Sterling has lost all confidence he isn't good enough for top team his touch is atrocious and doesn't know what to do with the ball half the time, Grealish would be an upgrade without question.

Rewatched our victory at Anfield earlier.

Sterling, whilst frustrating at times, was a key attacking asset in the game. He gave TAA a torrid time.

Interestingly it was Mahrez who was poor and went off for Jesus who also made an impact when he came on.

Hoping Raz can rediscover his form next season.

Then we won’t offer him an extension, oh looks like we are. Maybe Pep and Txiki think you’re wrong, and think he has the talent to be worth trying to keep.

does anyone remember the point in the season where raheem just stopped doing anything right? because while he wasn't on fire at the start of the season, he was still a great player. like, you could imagine him playing in the best 11. now he's fallen so massively in his ability that it's unimaginable to start him in any important games and every even slightly decent thing he does gets applauded (which is good, we need to bring his confidence up step by step)

wouldn't shock me in the slightest if we start next season and he's back to top form like this half a season just didn't exist.

With what? His technical ability? His football brain?

I’m not seeing it!

When he played on the right, knocking the ball past a player, or playing the 1-2 with KDB or Walker, and slipping in behind, he LOOKED deadly, because he created goals by getting into the danger area.

He was also fortunate enough to have Sané sliding balls across the box for him to run into.

Today, he’s a deep second fiddle to Mahrez on the right, and Foden is rapidly pulling so far away from him as to be embarrassing. Yo add insult to injury, even Torres has shown himself to be a far more clinical false nine, or actual nine!

Where does he fit in, other than giving one of them a rest or during an injury recovery? He can play anywhere across the front line, but do can Jesus, Torres, Foden, Bernardo, and he’s not technically better than any of them.

His stock in trade is running at defenders and using his speed to get past them. Firstly, he rarely does this anymore, and secondly, he appears to have forgotten what to do if he ever manages it!

His first touch is non-existent, his decision-making with the ball at his feet has regressed, and he fails to accept the simplest of opportunities in favor of…well, what exactly…trying to make them simpler?

In short, he is the only City player I don’t expect to score with an 80% open goal, because I fear ge will take another touch, or his touch won’t be good enough, or he’ll shin it!

Just as his confidence seems shot, so does mine in him. Sadly, I wish confidence was the only hurdle I thought he had to overcome yo play in this team. I fear the quality of the team has moved past him.

I agree to your views.
But still we don't have an explanation why his ball control should have gone - except for confidence reasons. That would mean his former ability must be still in him, where should it have gone?

We can only speculate about a reason, be it personal life or being outperformed by the fantastic Stockport kid, still getting better game by game. We simply don't know.

But the coaching staff will know. I'm sure they are monitoring every part of player's lives in detail to assess where they are standing and what the future might bring.

Offering a new contract tells me the "problem" - whatever it is - must be manageable.

I've never before seen a player on top level lose his technical abilities like Raheem. I think there must be a certain reason but I guess we won't get more details and have to trust he finds his old self.

I'm excited for him next season.

If this season has been his lowest for us, with 25 goal contributions, then it can only go up.

Regardless of whether people on here are rating him or not, the odds of him being sold are very slim imo.

So I'm going on the size of optimism with him, because he will be our player next season, what's the point in getting angry when you know he's gonna stay, what a waste of energy, support him, he's earned it, many of our trophies were won because of him.

I will try and give this a go.

Despite his form totally falling off a cliff the past few months(since the beginning of march) and him in effect losing his starting spot. Prior to that he was pretty much a mainstay in the team, was a consistent feature of the 21 game-winning run the team went on, scored some important goals in the earlier part of the season 3 of which being match-winners in 1-0 wins and was a factor of why the league was pretty much won by the beginning of march before his form dropped. No amount of revisionist history will remove the fact that he started and played a part in wins against liverpool, spurs, everton and arsenal in a row which effectively sealed the title.

So here you have a player whom despite being in his worst form the past few months, will still end the season having the 3rd most minutes of all outfield players(excluding ederson), currently joint 3rd for goals with 14 and 2nd in assists with 11. Clearly this is a player who has been of some value to the team this season despite his loss off form towards the end of it.

Maybe pep has lost trust in starting him in the most important games currently but certainly hasn't lost complete faith in him as a player seeing he started him in the league cup final. If I was to guess, Pep and the management view this season and the false 9 as an anomaly and something that can't be sustained long-term going forward especially with the highest goal-scorer being a central midfielder with 17. Hence the seemingly huge priority of the signing of a top class striker in the summer. If that is to be the case he would probably feel having a focal point to lead the line would be what will help get sterling back into form and performing to the standards he has the past few seasons.

Thankfully this is a manager who doesn't base a player's overall quality or potential contribution on a few months of poor form because if he were to listen to many here, the likes of gundogan, stones, mahrez and even bernardo would all be sold by now.
Quality post mate and well thought out, agree with every bit of it ! I’m sure with a proper centre forward leading the line next season ( potentially Kane if rumours are to be believed ) then we would see Sterling back to his best.
40 goals/assists in each of the previous 3 seasons is top quality numbers
