Is it fair to sat that those arguing for Sterling to get an enhanced contract are looking back more than one season as justification, whilst those against are looking at the last season?
If these contract discussions were 12 months ago, and he was given the enhanced terms then, the club would have made a huge error in judgment based on what Sterling served up this season, so why is it inconceivable that next seasons performance will be any different?
If Sterling played for anyone else and we had been monitoring him, being honest, would we want the club to break the bank for him and give him the salary commensurate with our top earner?
At the end of the day, there is a huge risk associated with his prolonged lack of form, and by all accounts on here, it looks like the club are willing to take it, but let's not pretend that in offering Sterling an enhanced deal, this will guarantee Sterling will return next season as if this loss of form never happened as many on here are predicting.
The only way we will find out whether the club got it right or wrong is through time, and, as pointed out quite often across multiple threads, the club sometimes get it wrong.
All we are doing in the meantime, is airing our views and concerns without knowing the outcome.
