Got caught a few times in possession last night which is most likely why Pep subbed him. I'm sure he will be frustrated with that performance & no doubt Pep will leave him out next game now that Akanji is fit. There's no doubt he's going to be a quality player & I expect him to come back stronger.

He was keeping the ball to long when he had an easy pass which in previous games he did, think he needs a rest mentally to reset! He has played a lot of important games and was great.

Lets hop Pep will not make him disappear like Khusanov
Too late

I think he's been an absolute revelation at full back and is a big reason for our turnaround in form, but the team is looking more settled again now and a mistakes are creeping into his game (which was always going to happen).

With akanji coming back and the cup final coming up it might be the right time for him to slip out of the team a bit, but I've still no real qualms if Pep continues to start him at this stage

I don't have a problem at all if he starts the Cup final. After all, he's largely responsible for getting us there!

I think the selection of Doku altered the rhythm that he had in the previous games. The space that Nico had as a wing back was no longer there, and when he drifted inside the space was occupied by Omar and Gundo. In my opinion this then led to him trying too hard to make something happen in the second half.

It's a good lesson for him, and let's not forget he's probably going to win player of the month because he's been brilliant in almost every other game.

I think he struggled coz he mostly played as an inverted fullback which should be his wheelhouse as many say he is really a midfielder. But in reality, he struggles there and makes more mistakes.

Nunes on the other hand was poorer in possession and decision making.

The inclusion of Doku as a starter ( deserved as it may have been) changed some of the dynamics. He took up the positions Nico normally takes, and Marmoush waa moved to the left. Whee he wasn't in sync with with Nunes.

Nico and Gundo got into each others way often.
Yeah, it was to accomodate Doku wide as you said. And in theory it should work to let Nico play as a midfielder but it exposed his lack of experience there.

Fullback is just MUCH easier to play, especially if you have athleticism.

That said, and I know Pep loves Doku wide, why cant Doku adopt some Marmoush-isms? Let him be more central. Thats the reason he hardly scores goals, he is forced to be wide (which I get for his 1v1s).

I didnt even like Marmoush RW, because with Kev and Nunes on the right, we had no left footer there.

I think Marmoush should have just played striker if playing with Doku or play only 1 at a time.

Also, was Nunes that bad? I thought maybe slightly shaky the first 20 with the booing getting to him, but I thought overall, he ended the game with a solid defensive performance.

If you are technical and athletic Fullback is far far easier in a Pep system. And you van become WC with the right skill set.

I think he was given a 15 minute run there in one of our poor games and ever since Pep has preferred every other attacking player to Doku. I think je is #1 if you want a straight up winger, but he is at the bottom pf the list for any central relate attacking spots.

Its Hasland, Marmoush, Savio, Phil, Maca, Kev, Grealish before Doku. He has been typecasted. Wing or bench.

Me neither. Even though he still had a few good runs that were ignored.

Nunes was bad. Outside of the first 20 minutes where he made noticable errors, he was generally bad in possession. Controlled the ball poorly often and never had a plan before he got the ball. He was solid defensively though.

So it was only half bad

I don't see any reason for him not to play at Southampton. He rightly got subbed v Wolves. Being left out could harm his confidence. It would be very harsh for three bad choices that didn't cost us owt. Some of the other fuckers have been doing it all season. ;-)

I'd like to see him track back a little more convincingly, that's all he's missing. Anyone else notice it?

Probably needs a week off, but he has been brilliant for us so far.

Whole new ball game for him, matches coming thick and fast at the highest level, but acquitted himself brilliantly. His performances have been one of the highlights of the season.
