Well this is very old news.. We were targeted similarly when we had Delph playing there .. and Zinchenko.
IMO O’Reilly is a better player than either of those two. Certainly has a higher ceiling..
I just love watching a young city fan play for us..it feels different to watching a foreign player..or even a player who we have brought in from another club..
He is just like Rico and mccatee they are living the dream.. imagine been a blue and wearing that shirt..he's doing it

Let's not forget he's not a proper left back, he's just filling in there for now. I think he'll develop into a top midfielder when he gets the chance to play in midfield.
He's not but I'm not sure he'll be getting a shot in midfield anytime soon so he'll have to become one to see regular minutes for us.

This seasons midfield is the worse it's been under pep, you have to imagine we'll sign midfielders this summer, hopefully get a fit Rodri back and you'd expect better from Gonzalez as he settles, that's going to make getting a midfield berth mext season, significantly harder than it is now.

I think OReilly will be happy he's getting regular starts at LB but I think it's only a matter of time before he gets starts in midfield. He's too good to stay at LB like I said earlier.

I can't see how Gonzalez is any better than this lad.
Only thing that pisses me off with pep is he plays players who have been brought it before lads from the youth team.
But who am I or anyone to argue with the greatest manager English football has ever or will ever have .

Yaya O'Reilly , perhaps ?

The midfield is packed

I think there are 3 positions in Pep's midfield

DM ( Rodri , Nico Gonzalez)
CM /organsire ( Gundogan , Kovacic )
playmaker ( KDB, Foden, Bernardo,Mcatee,Echeverri )

De Bruyne won't be here next season, Bernardo Kovocic McAtee and Gundogan may no longer be. Plenty of room in midfield for OReilly next season.

What a great potential
Agree.

I'm not quite sure though what was going on yesterday defensively at LB. O'Reilly was frequently high up the pitch leading to dangerous opportunities for Palace and to one of their goals. Maybe Pep told O'Reilly to play that high or maybe O'Reilly - who is not a LB by trade - needs some time to get used to the position.

Anyhow, great talent.

Well, I suppose you can't seriously give MOTM to anyone other than Kev. But frankly, my second candidate is this lad. Terrific skills with his feet, but big and quick too, and doesn't get bullied. A lot of good decisions in defence.
In my view, over on the left, for the first half-hour, he was absolutely being hung out to dry. Having to mark two Palace players. No tracking back whatsoever by people in midfield who should be tracking back to help out. No names, because I don't want to slag anyone off.
But it wasn't on Nico O'Reilly.

Should definitely be happy to be getting minutes right now wherever but I'm not sure why you think he's going to get minutes in midfield when the competition goes from the poorest it's ever been to hopefully with the right recruitment, the best it's been for a while.

If he's training and playing as a left back, pep is going to see him as a left back more and more. In a weird way he almost needs to fail as a fullback to get a shot in midfield.

I assume it’s how Pep wants them to play. All the complaints here about his defending are the exactly the same ones people have about Josko when he plays there. I think it’s pretty clear we’re never going to have a textbook LB.

Because O'Reilly is a midfielder.

Loved the way he took his goal. He didn't belt the shit out of the ball, he more or less passed it into the net. Great composure. We just need to get him to work on his haircut!
