If he's going to be played at full back then we need to give him time to become defensively aware, looked lost at times yesterday.
I really like the kid but wonder if he'll ever nail down one position or whether he'll be that player who slots in in various positions but is never quite the regular starter

The lad wants far too much time on the ball. I fear he is not going to make it with us. Subbed off at Old Trafford where he was poor, hauled off at home to Villa when he had a poor game, and was really poor on Saturday...dawdling jogging back for their goal when the guy who crossed it was zooming past him, didn't anticipate that the player who has a reputation for scorching up and down the right wing might actually fancy a run past him with the ball. And of course, wanting 5 seconds to shift the ball from right to left foot when about 7 yards from goal before having a shot....not good

Obviously it’s too early to say, but If we sign a left back and bunch of midfielders will he get enough game time.

Struggling to see a pathway to regular football, other than through injuries with other players

Isnt he just the 2nd LB as well as a bit more of a backup at CM?

I feel there is 1500-2000 mins somewhere there.

If you imagine a full season, roughly 60 games (minimum 5400 mins per position), I think that number is reasonable.

juts lb, doubt he gets into midfield next season at all

Yeah I'd say back-up to Ait-Nouri (assuming he's signing), but with Gvardiol probably coming in for any big games if he's not needed in the centre.

I'd imagine if he doesn't get decent game time we might lose him season after.

In what I envision, I can see it because I don't see MGW coming.

In the 2 spots, I have Reijnders, Nico, Rodri and Kova (recently injured).

I can see O Reilly getting some gametime there, not alot mind you, but some.

This is partly why I don't see MGW as necessary, but I see what others do in thinking he won't get midfield minutes.

If he`s smart then he should look elsewhere. With a new LB & new midfielders in the pipeline his game time will be non-existent or at best some garbage minutes here & there. He shouldn`t care about loyality because the majority of city fans don`t care about academy players & want their dopamine rush in the transfer windows.

That’s what I’m thinking. I just can’t see a pathway to regular first team football.

Obviously I could be completely wrong, but it’s the same with all of youngsters - its nigh on impossible to become a regular in our team - even when they are good enough

The lad is destined go the same way as most of his fellow academy 'graduates'.

There's never been a clear pathway into the City first team from the academy. Even Phil Foden’s playing position in the team is uncertain after six years and POTY awards.

Successive transfer windows have shown that City will invariably spend big rather than promote from within.

If Nico genuinely believes in his own ability, he should follow the example set by Cole Palmer. If he doesn't, he'll just end up like James McAtee, wondering what could have been.

That's a crazy statement.

Pep clearly likes big strong players.. and this kid is a freight train.. just can't be pushed off the ball in the middle.

He's got a better chance to be a central midfielder for Pep's City than Foden does!

FFS he has what 4 or 5 assists in his first season playing what 9 games?? Foden had 8 assists in his POTY season! Fodens just not a midfielder.. but this kid has all the talent and the body to do what City needs.

I just hope he stays injury free, humble and doesn't have any mentality issues.. because we've seen what happened to Liam Delap who's a hothead.

If he genuinely believes in his own ability, he'll back himself to break through at City, and not take a step down

He shouldn't be believing in his own ability, rather he should be believing in his ability to develop... Ans if he believes in the latter, the better option is to go somewhere else and dominate.

Had Reinjders started in City's academy he wouldn't have made it either. Yet after working and improving his quality at lesser clubs, now je is ready and big clubs will give him more leeway. Coz he is proven.

Young players coming from the clubs youth program are not proven. If you are not Lamine Yamal or Foden-like World Class potential, you are better off leaving ur top club at the latest around 20 to give yourself a 3 year period to maximize development and have big teams calling your agent for a big move when you hit your peak around 24.

Sitting around in back up roles just isnt the best for young players.

He's unlikely to get regular football at City if we're loading up on new signings this summer. Who's going to move aside to accommodate him?

If he's happy with the bench, he'll orobably end up another McAtee. If he backs himself and makes a move, he'll at least get more chance to prove himself.

The biggest problem for many of our 'local lads' in the Academy is that they've been living in the City bubble for nearly all of their lives. Moving on to another club / area / country after so many years quickly becomes a question of their character.

I'd advise any youngster in the Academy to folllow the money. If they get a good offer from a PL club (like Cole Palmer), or top overseas club (like Jadon Sancho) they should take it.

Follow the money, take the risk, back your own talent.
