Absolutely. But honestly, let's be real for a second. There's harsh, and then there's stuff like "he can't shoot, can't pass, can't dribble, and can't tackle". This squad is made up for the best footballers in the world and I just can't stomach seeing so much nonsense said about them.

So if you say the nonsense like that, then you should be reminded of it too. Believe me the shit stuff I say about football, people remind me about daily!
The Sterling thread is a testament to that, agreed.

Anyone remember that thread "The Gundogan Blindspot" ?

Haha.
But what does Gundogan really do? Can anyone explain? Just passes the ball around a bit, big fucking deal. He's an absolute coward who hides and never contributes to anything to the team. The only reason Peo treats him like a son is because he is a fraud too. Me, I like players like Coutinho who can truly change the outcome of a game. If you're a midfielder and can't assist or score a goal every match, why even play football?

The problem with football supporters is the tendency to make harsh judgements in the heat and now without looking at the bigger picture. I suppose we are all guilty to some extent.
Gundogan wasn’t performing at this level he’s at now for a while and the team at times struggled with him. That didn’t make him a poor player, just meant the standards we expect from him and others weren’t being reached.
Thankfully, the player most of us knew was in there has come to the fore and if he doesn’t come in the top three in the player of the year vote it’ll be a travesty.
Made up for him. Seems like a genuinely great bloke as well as a sublime footballer.

I suspect that many of us remembered him playing against us and dominating the game.

Obviously his injuries affected him and his performances for City were a shadow of his Dortmund performances we had witnessed .

Brilliant to see him now performing at such a high level again. And tbh I doubted that we would seem him performing at this level.

Coward is probably the most ironic term given to lads who do their jobs in front of millions and millions of people and get judged on every single minute of their time doing that job by those millions and millions of people.

Is this a joke?

I love this idea that "Gundogan wasn’t performing at this level he’s at now for a while and the team at times struggled with him". Straight from the horse's mouth -

"I feel like this is maybe not the best form of my life as lots of people are saying. In terms of numbers, I have the best numbers that I have ever had in my career. This is something that I cannot deny and of course this is also what keeps people's attention."
"The fact that I am scoring lot of goals now - that does not make me a better player and it does not make me a happier person. I am always looking deeper into the game and how I played, no matter whether I scored or assisted or whatever."

Absolutely nothing has changed on this forum. When he did his job really well which was to be a metronome (as instructed by Pep), he got called a coward and shite. Now that he's scoring goals and driving into the box more often (not because he just wants to, but again because Pep has instructed him to), people are busy revising history that he was never this good. Apparently goals scored and number of flashy dribbles per minute are the only metrics for judging a midfielder.

I don’t think he was performing at the level he is now. It wasn’t solely down to him, there was definitely context needed. The goals haven’t made him stand out, the team set up and players around him stepping up have seen us finally seeing the player we knew was in there.
So, you can love whatever idea you want, it won’t make me think different.
