He has been for most of the time one of the "official" scapegoats on this forum. Some "expert" and "high-posting" posters here made sure to promote and cement that. Lately, there has been a feint change of tone due his obvious impact on title wins over the last two seasons in particular. They are just waiting for his next misstep to call it a one-off.
To me he is approaching legend status. His interplay with Haaland on Sat showed us so much. As Pep said, he has this knack of arriving in the 6 yard box at just the right time. With Harland drawing so much attention, have a feeling this won't be the last time we see a Haaland assist to Ilkay (when most would expect the other way around)

Agreed. He's so clever with how he reads the game as well. Now Rodri is well and truly settled in, and all the defence is watching Haaland and Kev I'm sure he'll find so many little pockets.

Instrumental in the 2018-2019 title when filling in for Dinho. I don't even remember how many games we had to win in a row but he was immense.

Instrumental in the 2020-2021 title when playing as the false 9. His goal scoring form was crucial.

Instrumental in the final day of the 2021-2022 title with his brace off the bench.

He's generally been one of our better CL performers and overall a very senior player who's a great presence in the locker room. Now a club captain to boot.

Like someone else said, he's def approaching "legend" status.

He was never hopeless. This was an urban myth that occasionally rears its head
He was bordering on being a liability in many games, his fitness, confidence and inability to get around the pitch were a real issue for us as the opposition just ran past him.

The turnaround has been nothing short of amazing,as i have stated at every opportunity since. He has proved to have a strength of character,a will to win,and an ability to inspire that i didnt believe he had in him anymore and that i was wrong to write off.

I would have him in every one my 'best' 11's.

We can disagree on the first part (no problem there) but glad you see his special qualities now.

Liability is harsh , he was coming off the back of two potential career threating injuries.

Gundo arriving at the club with a serious injury but as Pep's first signing should tell you everything about how good he was and is.

Still a liability, whatever the reason.....i only judge by what i see in front of me,the mitigation is irrelevant.

It does speak volumes.......Gundo was amazing at Dortmund, and Pep was clearly hoping, and had confidence, that the player could rediscover that form and replicate it here.

The gamble, calculated, has paid off and more.

He arrived with an injury ,a dislocated knee, and couldn't play was that when he was " hopeless", soon as he started playing for us he suffered a cruciate ligament injury and out for a further 11 months, was that the period he was "hopeless".
Just exactly when was his "hopeless " period ?
