Think that Bernie playing behind him, gives him the confidence to make his important, line-breaking 10-20 yard surges.
Forest didn't know how to cope as he transformed the defensive passing into an attack.
When Harland returns, Kova will undoubtedly provide passes for Big Erl to run onto and hopefully score plenty...
 
Played well with Bernardo and the two centre backs today. Problem is, as Guardiola acknowledges, we cannot rely on that combination too often because it will soon be sprung.
 
I think the upturn in form is a case of the new system suiting his play style a lot more. Relying on the width from the wingbacks and trying to get us in behind more, means more bodies in the middle to create space for him to drive into from deep, more players to play one-two’s etc

Despite being so good on the ball, having space to run into has always been his game. When we’ve pinned teams in so much in the past, all he’s been able to do is play sideways passes. There’s space in behind now.

Indeed .

I've always been a supporter of his on here.

The issue is that fans judged him on the expectation he's a Rodri back up and should just slip seamlessly into that role if needed. It's not his position and not what he does.


He's a midfielder that plays further forward for the most part and he's excellent when he can play in his real role

I think this is spot on.
 
He’s been brilliant these last few games , he seems to be settling into the number six role now but I think he always needs someone alongside rather him

Has worked out when to make his trademark burst from deep which opens up space for others ahead of him

Lots of players making a step up lately which may mean there are less wholesale changes than we might of thought a few months ago

I think Kova , Bernardo and Gundogan may all stay
 
Superb performance today. One of the best of any of our players this season. We kept their defence occupied and opened up gaps for Kovacic to exploit and he took them every time. Some really good passes and he was excellent breaking up their counter attacks too.
 
Been saying all season, play him in his actual position as an 8 and you'll see how good he is. Held our midfield together single handedly most of the season. A true masterclass yesterday.
 
here is an old youtube link of 5 min Kovacic highlight at Inter. he was barely 20 then. it sums well who the player Kova is.

I reckon we are talking about a difference word of harsh when Kova was treated. Like someone was harsh harsh on Foden, and his comment was Foden was the worst player in 24/25 team, just slightly better than Kova. When Kova put up a performance like Bernie vs Forest yesterday, he would be slayed as losing the ball at dangerous area countless times.
