People tend to focus on goals and assists but he rarely gets those. He’s all about shifting opponents around and creating space for players such as de Bruyne and Modric. They get the plaudits while he gets the brickbats. Part of the reason de Bruyne was getting so much space today, more than he is usually afforded, was because Kovacic and Rodri had pulled Newcastle all over the place. Bodes well.
 
His presence gives rodri more freedom to join the attack. He's incredibly efficient and effective in his role already but there's more to come. Once this lad is fully integrated, knows where the next pass will be ahead of time and is that half a second sharper for it, people will start giving him the credit he warrants.

That’s why we got him and got him early in the window, those 3 in midfield already look perfection .

They are a good balance, particularly with Bernardo and Grealish. It will be up to the others (Foden, Doku, Alvarez, Haaland, Bobb, and Nunes) to keep lifting their games to new heights so that the standards remain high.
 
I think he’s top class and a really good player for us. Ok he doesn’t score many goals but he’s very efficient in what he does and his presence allows Rodri to wander forwards, who amongst all his other talents is a real threat in the opponents box
