8 second rule

Who ever is in goal for City, will be the first keeper to be penalised: Like Sterling at Stoke for holding at a corner. As you say, will slip away and be quietly forgot about. Until, that is, we play the red cartel + 1 and in Europe.
Just like " simulation " ignored when a cartel team dives and gets a penalty. Comes in handy though when an opposition player hasn't read the script, looks like they might have other ideas and gets taken out by a cartel goalkeeper.

We got a penalty for holding in the box about 20 minutes before Stoke got one.

Can't really complain.

'I expect the whistling wankers will devote as much attention to the eight second rule as they do for the constant holding and wrestling at corners. Are PiGMOL installing chimes that commentce as soon as the goalie has the ball? - BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, Nine bongs for redshirts 'n BONG, BONG, BONG for the rest!

Then yes. Let’s put a time on corners too. It’s cheating the public out of time. Let’s cut the dark arts out. And if the keeper goes down injured on 22 and 77 mins, that’s fine. Trainer comes on and all other coaching staff have to sit on their arses. Any attempt at coaching and they get sent off with a one game touchline ban. Do it again and it’s a two game ban……
Need a big semi-circle around the managers coaching area maybe a 30 yard dotted line from the touchline, step inside automatic yellow.

Just hope teams don't cotton on how slow we are when teams break on us as if I was them, I would be giving us corners on purpose

Only use I have seen so far is in the Club World Cup and it favoured Madrid getting a corner when the game was level going into injury time.

Saw the thread title and thought the 8 second rule was what is the maximum time you can feel safe in eating a burger after it has fell on the concourse at the etihad.

I was at a pre season friendly on Tuesday with 2 Northern League sides. The ref was applying the new 8 second law vigorously. In the 1st half he gave 17 free kicks. In the 2nd half I set my stop watch and found he was blowing on about 5 seconds

Shouldn't be giving any free kicks should he? I thought a corner should be awarded?

Only enforced for Ederson taking 10 seconds for a goal kick usually after the opposition keeper has taken 40 for every single action.
This is about the goalkeeper releasing the ball within 8 seconds when the ball is in play.

It’s a completely separate issue from how long players take to restart the game after the ball has gone out of play.

So you get a corner if the keeper holds the ball for more than 8 seconds.
I don't like the idea of interviewing the players when there subbed off. They could be really angry and say something they'll regret.

Not read all this thread so this may have already been posted. Am I correct in assuming that the keeper is now allowed eight seconds, as opposed to six, to release the ball in order to speed up the game?
