As an inverted fullback he does the role very very well, but as an out and out fullback he will struggle against top wingers. I think at the end of the day he just suits the way Pep wants his fullbacks to play, but at any other top club he could struggle to hit the heights.
He’s not not better than Trent or James as a traditional fullback
He's only just turned 18 and will get stronger and more physical over the next couple of years. What aspects of his game make you think that he will struggle? - he defended better than Cancelo did when we played the dippers in the league (that may be a low bar).

Yes the tackle on Salah was his standout play, then apart from that just kept it simple some nice one touch 5-10 yard passes to keep possession.
He’s a differently player to Kyle walker, I think Pep will sign a new right back similar to Kyle (once Kyle is finished) and then rotate between the 2 depending on how he wants to set them up tactically

He's very young and I've only seen him play a few times. Saying he's not better than two of the best fullbacks on the league may be true right now. But I have seen nothing to suggest he won't be a great full back in the future and already looks a very good one at 18.

From nowhere he is elevating his game to a standard that doesn’t look out of place; brilliant development from the club again and once he fills out he could be a real gem in that inverted role; tenacious, progressive with the ball, full of running and no fear

Another with the work-rate like Alverez who is integral to the system we employ, oh and cost fek all

Pep is gonna have 4/5 home grown in this team by the time he leaves!

I think people mistake the obvious downsides of the inverted role - mainly being 15 yards into midfield while simultaneous marking a winger on the touchline - with being slow.

Walker was written off by many on here because Saint-Maximin had the better of him 1v1 when he was playing the inverted role, a month later he's matching possibly the fastest player on the planet stride for stride in a world cup quarter final.
