It's an option but we probably need Stones in that back line. He's the best centre-back we have by far.

It would work exactly how it did for City. So you'd have Walker there to create more of a back 3 when in possession and Stones and Rice would rotate the way he does with Rodri in terms of positions to manipulate the opposition. Off the ball Stones would then either stay in midfield to press, or drop into the back 4 to get the shape back.

It's completely beyond Southgate to try that sort of thing though.

He was superb last night, playingf a very similar role to what he does here.

Carsley understands football,which helps enormously.

I know I'm in the very small minority but I don't want to give up on him playing right back just yet.

We defend so little on the whole compared to other sides that I think the positives of him stepping into midfield while in possession outweigh the potential negatives of him having to defend versus bigger and faster fullbacks on occasion. IIRC he played as a RB versus Liverpool in a League Cup game a couple of seasons ago and more than held his own.

And where the fuck does ‘hendo’ fit into this little plan of yours? Hmmm?

You need a forward thinking manager to do it, hes still obsessed with playing Rice next to Henderson.

And Maguire would just be exposed.

Should took him of after 75 mins you could tell his legs had gone! For there winner he didn't have the energy left to run after him to make it hard for the player to pass!
