82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Mold him to be a future 8. All that defensive side of the game he learned is still valuable as a hard working 8.

He will never be a city quality defender, he isn't fast or strong/tall enough.

If he had speed, then he could make up for the lack of strength or height.

If he was tall and strong, then you could forgive the lack of speed.

But he has neither, I simply do not know many fullbacks who lacked both and were elite, its quite rare.
to be honest, a modern 8 also needs to be both fast and strong, especially in the burst of the first few steps.

I really don’t see what Lewis brings us, other than off the bench when 3 up to just be a nuisance in midfield, he’s a headless chicken in defence and never in the right position. I’d sell him in the summer.

He’s not going to be here in 2 years. He’s neither this nor that, and while he is a useful utility man, he does nothing exceptionally, while being small, not fast and not the strongest.

Lovely kid, love his energy, but I’m just not convinced he has enough of a complete package to make it at City. Sorry.
(@HypnoticBlue looks like you beat me to it.)

Yes go on. Lets start blaming a 19 year old academy kid of our own. That will help. Not defending a poor performance on the night by the player, but the comments I read on here and which are based on tonight's result is absolutely out of order. Get a fck grip.
Rico will come good. 100 percent he will.
Completely agree.

It’s time to call out every one of you fickle fans on this forum. Some of the patronising comments I have read are simply downright disgusting. You have all clearly forgotten that earlier in the season Rico was the standout player in quite a few games (see below). This is the reason he was called up as a full England international.

Rico is a 19 year old who has been asked to play right back in the best team in the world. At the end of last season he was combining beautifully with Oscar Bobb. The two of them seemed to have a sixth sense on the pitch together. At the beginning of this season he started off very well (see next paragraph).

In the Sparta Prague game he received 41 votes on this forum for man of the match. Against Tottenham in the Carabao he received 12 votes (4th best), against Slovan Bratislava he received 99 votes (second only to Doku), against West Ham he received 29 votes (3rd best), against Chelsea (first game of the season) 174 votes (second best), against Ipswich (second game of the season) 248 votes (player of the match), against Inter he received 46 votes (3rd best)

Need I go on?

Rico needs a rest. He needs to recharge his batteries. It's as simple as that.

Some of you clearly can't remember anything about the first half of the season, where Rico was clearly one of our best players game after game.

I know most don't like the facts to get in the way of a good old fashioned pile on.

I know it's a novel idea, but how about you actually back one of our academy stars, rather than tear him down?

Check Josko’s thread. He’s apparently the reason why this is the worst defense in the last 6-7 years. Or all the posts about how we will never win unless we get LB in January.

I just don’t think either one should be judged by yesterday’s game.

and the game was a bigger mess than I thought if Fernandes was there!
I'm not going to blame the alcohol for that one. I just can't register his name in my head. I have found myself using all types of Portuguese names to refer to him but my favourite go to name for him is Fernandes. I would keep repeating his name in my head until I get it right, starting now.

Nunez, Nunez, Nunez, Nunez, Nunez, Nunez, Nunez, Nunez

The lads 19 ffs. Of course he will make mistakes. He has been used, effectively as a kick up the arse for senior players who needed more motivation.

Pep wouldn't have wanted to use him as often but we have no choice. To rule him out as a good player in the future based on performances at 19 is silly. Give the lad a chance. If he was 24 I could understand the criticism, but he has plenty of time to develop and he can play a role as a squad player.

Nunes, not fucking Nunez!
