Previous successes mean fuck all, even Pep said that.
Dortmund fans laughed when we bought akanji and said give it 2 yeaes and he would go lazy or dozy, sadly it is true.
Perhaps Dortmund fans will be right ?
But what a 2 years he has given City.
For what he has cost, he must be one of the best value for money purchases.
Unfortunately, think he too has suffered with injuries ?

I wouldn't say he's the worst player but he's incredibly limited, he tried hard but he's bang average and would NOT get into any other top ten side, he really is our Tom Cleverley or Phil Jones minus the gurning.
He’s definitely not better than Phil Jones as a defender when jones was 20 imo. Cleverly is a good comparison but honestly he might even be worse and that’s saying something because Cleverly was shite. Regardless, I stand by my point Rico doesn’t start for a 6 point bottom of the league Southampton. That’s bad. A young Cleverly, as shite as he was and he was shite, started and rightly so for Everton, Watford and was player of the season for them. We are one of the best teams in English football history, Rico Lewis should never have 80 appearances for us. I don’t know the obsession Pep has for the lad but I feel like every time we have a humiliating defeat Rico Lewis is a big reason why we lost, and Every time we go on a great run of wins this lad isnt even in the squad. Once again the worst player to ever play regularly for Man City in the last 20 years.

Technically he's a good player but has a lot to learn as any young player does. Its just his size/physicality is such a debilitating factor.

He's not strong or quick which is an absolute must for someone his size

If he could learn to stay on his feet it would be a start, goes over every time the ball goes near him, puts Gareth Barry to shame

Kindly name a player that’s worse than Rico Lewis in the last 15 or even 20 years (4 years before the takeover) that played regularly for us that worse than Rico? Rico, a lad who doesnt create many chances, doesn’t defend well, shoot well, bad positioning, is weak physically, can’t beat a man.

He has, all the defence has, but the point stands Akanji gets a pass from some for a very poor season even when fit because of the treble season and four in a row, Lewis should be treated no different, previous years shouldn't be counted.

And I don't condone people slating Akanji either btw I just want fairness not scapegoating a young lad.

Has no one learned from Edgehill

If he's by the sideline, with few options, and it gets us a free kick, is it a bad thing?

Not saying we want it all the time, but sometimes it's genuinely a decent outcome.

While I’d say “limiting” rather that “debilitating,” it’s sadly on the mark.

I’ve said on here that he won’t be here within two years. We are 6 months in and it seems many have joined the party…even though I got slaughtered for daring to say this about “one of our own.”

You answered your own question mate, he does it every time, listen I know where your coming from and also want him to do well, I just don't think it's going to happen at this level for the lad, I think someone said he's played 80? Games for us, we should have seen some sort of step up by now, by all accounts he's a good lad but that doesn't get you a place in a squad of one of the top teams in the world

As the above poster has said what a load of shite.

Worst player in the last 20 years?! Come off it. Maybe stop hating one of our own young players for a bit

I have always supported Rico (and will continue to do so) however at the moment he isn’t offering anything.

His form obviously suffers along with his confidence in a struggling team but his lack of physicality (he is not the only one) is really being highlighted at the moment and he very rarely wins any kind of tackle (again he’s not alone here.

On Wednesday, Rico along with Bernardo and Foden were swatted away like flies (or ants) against a team who were not really that physical, plus Gungodan who even in his pomp was never adverse to pulling out of a 50.50.

So that’s nearly half a team who cannot compete physically and teams have worked this out.

I’m not sure what the alternatives are….maybe Akanji at Right back (as per the treble winning team) because he is not good enough for the middle.

Back to Rico and he is good enough against the likes of Ipswich etc to allow other players to be rested but at the moment cannot be risked against any decent opposition, including Chelsea tomorrow.

Name me the player that played regularly for City since 2005 that’s worse than Rico Lewis. Im not even being a prick, im thinking back but I genuinely can’t think of one. Funny how all the Rico fanbois who disagreed, still haven’t given me a player. You know he’s got 49 PL appearances right? it’s been a bloody long time since we’ve started a player as bad as Rico. You have to go back a long time, definitely before the takeover

Worked for Zinchenko for a while.
Every 11 needs 1/2 who are just water carriers for the rest - it's difficult getting a team full of world beaters together at the same time.
Even though Zinchenko could hardly defend he had an attacking threat, can’t say the same for Lewis

I wonder if he could go back to his origins.

He was a wide attacking RB in the academy.

He even scored against Bayern in a friendly in this role.

Nunes can do it because he has pace and power, so itll be more difficult for Lewis im guessing.

Maybe the CM role very deep is better, hard to pin down.

He will get minutes, whether people like it or not as we must rotate to manage minutes.
