82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

A feisty debate this one. Is he good enough to be playing week in week out for us? I think the obvious answer is no.

Would he get in the Liverpool or Arsenal teams as a right back, or in centre midfield? The answer is no.

That's all I'll say, other than it's not his fault he's in the firing line and keeps being picked every week. He can only try and do his best.

Guys, please stop living in illusionary world...

Do you remember Zinchenko ? yep, that Ukrainian guy.. He was 20 years old also, when he played decent football in 18/19 and after Delph was injured and Mendy was peace of shit, Zinnie helped us to win the title.

Maybe, Zinchenko was vulnerability in defence, but as an inverted fullback he was doing a lot of good work in midfield and going forward. He was more solid with the ball, amazing first touch, etc.

What's Rico great at ? Defence, Midfield, Attack, please FFS name any fucking position or skill where he is top level.

And Zinchenko example I brought, because even Zinchenko wasn't enough here for majority of users and a lot of them were complaining. Then we sold that guy for 35 ml.

And if Zinchenko wasn't enough, why Rico is enough ?

Pep was playing that clown Garcia with that Rugby player hat for a season and other ones, that doesn't mean anything.
Common sense says, that Rico shouldn't be starting for City. Maybe some player who plays here and there, like sub of sub, but not the player who plays the most minutes.

If you look right now at City statistics, Rico is the most used player and maybe that's one of the reasons, why we are in a big fat crisis. He shouldn't even be in top15 used players.

With Lewis's age and abilities normally he would be playing a bit part, however the situation calls for him to start every game(out of position), and I would say for the most part been excellent, won't do his development any harm to feel like I'm sure he does at the moment, looks tired and needs to be pulled back a bit, don't understand some of the stick the he gets

Go back and watch the last 45.
Debate tiredness and position all you want - his basics were terrible.

Lewis is the only player with legs in the current midfield. He never stops running all game. Gundogan, Foden and Bernado are worse.
People blaming Lewis are not looking at the bigger picture. Others just blame Lewis because Mcateer is not playing.

One of, if not the main argument in favour of Rico, is that he has a high football IQ. You argue that he is the only one in the midfield with legs and never stops running. If you are correct in your assessment, the football IQ argument is on its arse, because no midfielder with both energy/running ability and a high footballing IQ, should be seen running towards their own goal, 15 yards behind play, multiple times per game.

If he has the legs, he should more often than not, be able to get back into position. If he doesn’t have the legs but has the football IQ, he wouldn’t be constantly out of position to begin with.
