Badly exposed last season. Our older players underperformed because time waits for no man. It was the perfect opportunity for him to take over from them, having played almost 100 games for us. Instead, he is worse than he first was at 17.

I can't see him featuring much this season. His midfield days are over considering our options there, and he simply can't defend. Even if we don't buy a right back, we have the likes of Nunes, Akanji, or Khusanov all ahead of him, IMO.

Got exposed last night in the U21

Easys to forget hes actually 2 years younger than Livramento and 1.5 younger than Conor Bradley, one guy were after and the other who's likely starting for the current Prem winners

Rico has had a rough time but this season especially and hes not alone, our "senior" "winners" in this squad have been pony, Lewis isn't an exception

The press/midfield completely failed our defence this year, it was so easy to play through us and because we tired pressing we had such a high line, our defence were woefully exposed and Lewis lack of pace (i don't believe hes "slow") was exposed but again...he'd not alone

Think Pep was wrong to drop him from the FA squad, that doesn't sit right especially after his semi-final performance

Definitely some question marks around him but hes got a lot of talent and hopefully he uses this season to improve

Could care less if I am getting hated but he is nowhere the talent Livramento is/ was an also not as good as fullback as Bradley who was even better in some games on the offensive side than TAA. I am gonna be real again and say that Lewis wouldn’t have a place in the squad if he wasn’t Homegrown and team trained. The inverted stuff. Other players can do it. On the offensive side he offers nothing and on the defensive side too.

I still don’t get the optimism here about him. I just don’t see anything special about him. All I hear is that he is a smart player. He wasn’t that smart when playing against Crystl Palace. The fact that teams openly attack his side all the time despite him being so SMART is worrying. We are nerfed with him on the field.

When France played England. He got turned inside outside by that spurs winger. The France team targeted him all game and made a mess on his side. I wonder if anyone here even watched that game. He was by far the weakest player on the field.

As a RB he will be number 3 behind a potential Livramento, Akanji/ Nunes. As a CM he will be Numbers 7(?) behind Rodri, Nico, Nico, Reijnders and 1-3 of them „
Uncs „
I just dont see it . Some players always get defended here while we expect players in the same age bracket to be like Neymar ( Doku, savinho in comparison to Bobb) as an example

Bradley has 17 league starts in the last 2 years, that's a shallow pool to see how he'll perform, especially as he played in a club that were flying

If we only went with how Lewis played the 22/23, he probably would've looked like a future star....but his form fell away like a young player does, same could happen to anyone

Livramento struggled last season, a 33 year old trippier kept him out and Newcastle fans thought they'd bought a dud who wasn't the same after his ACL

Perceptions change, this time last year I doubt anyone would be saying Lewis was "nowhere near the talent" of Livramento and Bradley

This time next year it may be different again

All id say if we're judging by form this season then Bernardo, Dias, Foden, Ederson etc. are mid table players at best

Pep will play him him right back inverted to midfield because this team now will be well balanced with Rodri plus the new midfielders and he will do fantastic

Judge him fairly and he was no worse than a large number of team members last season.
I have difficulty with some posters focusing their ire on a small number of players, especially ones so young.
We cannot keep buying superstars. If you accept that, you also accept that some players will develop while they are in the team. Rico has had some amazing performances and some poor ones, but he has, by no means, been a consistently poor performer in a high-performing unit.

I was devastated for the lad that he didn't make the Cup final squad never mind the team, he won MOM in the semi, and that told me Pep had other ideas, but we shall see

Doubt it with an attacking FB at LB. its a CB or straight up attacking RB on that side, cant see the RB inverting and leaving a back 2

I like Livramento and I hope we get him, but Lewis is far more comfortable on the ball than he is currently, and we know how Pep values that.

Depends on the tactics. If Pep wants someone drifting inside to help midfield and build up, then Lewis will still get a lot of games. If he wants more of an out and out old fashioned right back like Walker, then Livramento will be perfect.

And then potentially if you're giving a player the full right hand side and crowding the middle, then Nunes is a good option.

If we get a Right back, especially a homegrown one, I sense Nunes will become expendable and moved on. Lewis will be the Right back competition. Amd he'll play a lot.

I expect another jump in his performance this season.

Agree that Nunes would likely go, but I feel he offers more going forward than Livramento, although less secure defensively.

Big year for Lewis, still incredibly young but with loads of experience.

I think he may play RB again, and not midfield, because he is better suited as an inverted RB (than Nunes) to balance the attacking threat of Ait Nouri on the left.

This makes Nunes the backup RB, and he plays wide right to rest Ait Nouri, for which O Reilly plays LB, but inverts instead.

I think we will play like this, not with 2 attacking fullbacks, but with 1, and still have 1 wide winger (Savio, Doku or Bobb).

This technically means... Lewis is the starting RB? Because Ait Nouri starts over Nunes imo.

I could also potentially see Pep do something like Stones or Nico G inverted from RB as well as a more defensive option.
