82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Some of the comments are a bit harsh on Rico and I include myself as I’ve been quick to criticise at times.

To be honest the issue is not Rico-Lewis it’s the performances of the players around him.

He is a decent enough player, no worse than Delph in the centurions season or Zinchenko (for a number of years) who played in the full back hybrid role.

Unfortunately instead of a 20 year old academy player, strengthening the squad, filling the gaps when players are injured were expecting him to be part of the solution to losing our Balon D’or winner in a side where most of the senior professionals have lost their form and energy levels.

The lad should not be expected to be the conductor of the orchestra, but playing the triangle in the background.

I think he's a lot better than both Delph and Zinchenko tbh.

It’s funny. The fanbase clamour for Pep to play academy players and when he does, all the boo boys come out to annihilate him

I think both Delph and Zinchenko were way better. Zinchenko offered a lot going forward, and Delph was really solid defensively.
Zinchenko offered precisely one moment of quality going forward in all the years he was with us, when he beat his man to set up Rodri's goal against Villa. That was great. But other than that, he was good at recycling possession and offered zero in terms of creativity. And I'm saying that as someone who really liked him.

And Delph was really competent and did a good job when we needed him - but nothing more.
