I'm sure this thread will be slow after his performance...
It's because he looks good whenever our team is dominating. When you play against a poor (this season) team like West Ham, that just lost 0-5 at home, and looks truly awful at the moment, it doesn't tell you much about him.
We looked really good today as a team, but that's only compared to this current West Ham side. Let's see how we look in our upcoming run of fixtures against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, PSG etc. because these are our main rivals. This is the level we need to not only be at but beat. I have a feeling it won't go so well without reinforcements. We will see the same problems just like we did in the last few months. It's the same with Rico. Let's see how he does in these games. Would he start for the teams that I just named? I don't think so, and I am sure most would agree.
Rico always linked up the play well in games when we dominated the possession and kept on attacking. It masks all of his weaknesses, though, because he simply doesn't get tested enough. We are playing against Salford next, and it will also not tell you anything about his quality. When the team was struggling, and he was starting almost every single game with the exception of the Nottingham Forrest match, the only game we won (3-0 as well) in our awful run for a few months, he was one of our weakest links defensively or in midfield. Other players were poor as well, but the likes of Walker, Gundo, or Bernardo already had phenomenal careers, and whatever they do next is a bonus. Rico is supposedly our future, so it's way more concerning that this is the level of our future. Good player, will have a career somewhere, just not at the top level with us, I don't think. I hope he turns into the next Messi, though.
He did play well today, mind.
