82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

He's completed the most passes in the final third in Europe this season and is 2nd for key passes. You just don't know what you're watching.

For final third, that's Gvardiol, and it's the PL, not Europe. Rico is 19th .

For key passes (just the PL), Rico doesn't make the list, so nowhere near the top.

I don't understand that sentence at all?
he shouldn't be starting when players like Rodri are out

Any clearer?

explanation - when Rodri plays its less risk to have him in. if Rodri's out then its more risk having in in the first team

He was one of our best players again.
He gave the ball away numerous times against Lisbon one which should have been punished if gykores had not tried to chip the keeper.. he's progressive but he makes a lot of mistakes, and at the min ball retention needs to be better as were getting countered to hell from sloppy passes. Not sure he should be starting atm. Personal opinion though!

Ah I understand your point now but now I can disagree with it.

The risk for playing Lewis like that is the bald man in the dug out, Lewis is playing exactly how he wants him to play.

If we had another man in the dug out and he instructed Lewis to be a traditional RB then he would play like one and offer up zero risks.

Alternatively, we can put Walker back in and have lots of risks and no upside.

that's fair. obviously peps keeping faith in him with his positioning but he hasn't really delivered much in the box where he's arrived many times and he's been caught out with sloppy passes or touches quite a lot recently. I think I'd still rather have walker in there for experience personally especially being on a run of 3 straight defeats.

I agree with the gist of that. He definitely made mistakes and I expect more from him, as I do from everyone who played, but I still think he was one of our best outfield performers on the night.

The second half was a total write off for everyone other than Ederson but in the first half he was a big reason why we were dominating them.

But football is a results based game so I get that some will forget the positives in the wake of an embarrassing defeat.

My post clearly says Europe, as in UCL

That's 4 games, though, 2 of which were against Slovan and Sparta, so 2nd or 3rd division level. Exclude these two easiest games we will have all season (maybe also Feyenoord) and I wonder what these CL stats would look like. Rico is very useful when we dominate, mind, more useful than Kyle Walker, but when we don't, the game passes him by and he is a defensive vulnerability, IMO.
