I’m beginning to think so too. It’s a pity.
Pep's ego. The man has won so much he thinks he can turn anyone into a star. He can't, and now that our brilliance as a team is not protecting Rico anymore, he is getting exposed. Loan him to a low-PL team, and let's see how he does. He wouldn't get in their team on a regular basis.

Him playing every week, tells you exactly how far this side has fallen. He would have been lucky to get half a dozen games a season at this club over the past decade. Now he’s playing every week and in multiple positions. RB, LB, CDM and he’s no fucking good in any of them. Bang average footballer, shit defender and hasn’t progressed one jot since he first came in.

I saw plenty of his type at the rags as I was growing up, just a run-of-the-mill footballer, hanging on the coattails of much better players around him. Our problem currently, is that the players around him are no good either and now he is showing exactly what he is…completely meh.

Being asked to do too much & playing too much sadly it’s not his fault

His main issue is he has a kids body in a mans game, that tackle on Welbeck was like a kid trying to tackle his dad. Everyone is reading that 180 turn he spams so often. He is only part at fault though, the whole team is playing badly not just Rico.

Someone tell me what exactly did he create in the last 4 games - he has so much possession and opportunity. He also cannot defend when any team press.

Put. Him. In. Midfield.

Christ on a fucking bike.

He’s not good enough defensively and he’s targeted week in, week out. Not his fault.

He's a midfielder. Can he play that full back role at times? Yes. Can he play it when our defence is fucking shot? No.
How is he a midfielder?

Traits of a midfielder are ball playing and being able to get around the pitch, or be able to control the midfield with passing ability

Then an ability to help defend and to score or create goals

Lewis does none of the above, and has been upgraded because he came through the academy

He's an absolutely average footballer who excels at nothing

He gives up cheap possession 3 or 4 times every game it seems and puts us on the back foot/in trouble.

The role that’s asked of him is so difficult, he’s not got the pace or athleticism to recover a lot of the time.

That’s a good few goals this season where players (scorers) have run off his shoulder as he isn’t a natural defender.

Given Walker is having a mare as well we really need Akanji at RB for the next while.

Too small, falls over, can’t tackle, doesnt make forward passes. Needs to be taken out of the first team

Sadly he was awful for both goals. Just doesn't have any defensive nous at all.

If he was in position for the first goal he wouldn't have to come steaming in trying to get goal side and ending up on the floor and stopping our other players from clearing the ball. Second goal, I've absolutely no clue what he thought he was doing by pushing their player onto the ball whilst simultaneously putting himself into a position where he cannot defend from.

We all love an academy graduate but the reality is he is not offering us much on the ball and certainly not enough to get even close to justifying the gigantic hindrance he brings to the defence as a result.

First half he was slightly more restrained with his positioning and sat deeper, where he should be more often than of late instead of just roaming into a striker role for no reason, as the game went on, his discipline waned.

we can carry him in certain games when we have a fit in form defensive line and a protected midfield, we don't have that or anything close to it and he's making it worse. A more conventional fullback in JWE would be far better option right now even though he's nowhere near as good of a player as Lewis.
