82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Yep, God forbid anyone expresses anything resembling free thought...
It's strange because the same people trying to rationalise not playing the likes of McAtee, Wright, O'Reilly etc. will insist on playing Rico Lewis who is a glaring weakness in this City team. I guess it's because City made a decision a while ago to have Rico as the poster boy, non stop coverage etc. in all things City. Subsequently, some people just can't stand the thought that maybe he is never going to reach the required level with us. It's like some sort of cognitive dissonance. Even Pep gets it wrong sometimee, he is just a human after all. There is no shame in that, Rico can and will have a good career elsewhere, just not at this level.

If Rico is the issue why was he our best player in the first few weeks of the season when the team was working much better? Did the performance improve against Bournemouth when he started on the bench or were we fucking dreadful until he came on the pitch?

Be careful H94, you'll be called a weirdo...

Absolutely the wrong player to blame for our current meltdown.
Agreed. One player is not the issue. Unfortunately a number of things have come together at the same time and created the perfect storm. Injuries , loss of form , age catching up on one or two and going into the season a little undercooked (we got away with a few games early doors). We do need a combination of a refresh and players returning from injury. Gundogan & Walker look like its a season too far. Kdb looked bright when he came on but even if he stays another season we need to go big on a replacement. A lot of work to be done but no way would I be letting Rico go at this stage. Lets be honest if we were judging Phil on his performances this year they fall well short but we know thats just a form issue.

Who’s blaming any one player? Get yer specs on and look at these threads:

Walker
Gundogan
Foden
Stones
Grealish
Savinho
Ake
Doku
Silva
Pep
Txiki
Uncle Tom Cobley.

Only the tea lady is still in credit with brownie points. Unfortunately she’s not available for Anfield on Sunday.
