Dunno what to say about Rico. He's underperformed this season but I do feel he's been asked to do too much.
I think the opposite. IMO he has the easiest job in the side.

Seemingly no expectations on him of being a good defender. No expectations that he will bomb forward on the outside and produce crosses. No expectation that he moves into midfield and produces anything other than simple, 5 yard sideways and backwards passes.

His job appears to be nothing more than move diagonally from RB to CDM and do a bit of pointing and gesturing to his teammates. Great work if you can get it.

He's so unbelievably braindead when it comes to defensive instinct, he makes Nunes look like a prime lahm. Second half, being right behind him, the number of times I screamed for Rico to track his man behind only for them to effortlessly get behind him was unacceptable. Teams target it because they know it's a weakness.

Add to that playing safe then casually jogging into a congested area of the pitch. I also feel he hides in forward positions and can’t defend and is lightweight and not an athlete. So what is he? Oh, he’s a local lad…

It's at the point where it doesn't matter what he does. People will say the same stuff regardless. He's in the "Grealish Zone".

I agree 100%, but the lad doesn't pick himself does he? All I know is that he's probably doing his best, and it's not enough at this level.

Why Pep insists on starting him I'll never know.

Well there are clear expectations on him performing the role to a high standard, inverting into midfield, helping progression and then being able to move over & defend well. The fact that he can't do it is the issue. His limitations, especially this season, are clear and he should be asked to do less or not play.

Agree mate. Bare no malice to Rico, he can only do what he’s capable of which clealry isn’t good enough for a top premier league side. Pep has an Eric Garcia sized boner for him. Not the lads fault.

doesnt have the quality with the pass when he gets himself free in the midfield. doesnt create, doestn drive the team forward or control the game....and lastly cant recover once the ball has gone passed him....

is an average defender (and that is being kind)

tried hard but ultimately not good enough..

Agreed. I have shunned many of the ridiculous posts on here calling Pep out as the guy has muchos credit, however, if Rico continues to be a mainstay next season I may pivot. He’s useless, and hindered the team.

everybody can see that except Pep, he is league 1 level player

Given his age, nationality and time at the club, he is probably unlikely to be sold.

Which I am ok with, but ultimately he cannot b first choice or playing in big games.

In a full functioning City team, he could be used to rest players when games are won or against inferior opposition.

To be in the position we are now we have him, is no good for him or us.
