He's privileged to be starting games because he's simply not good enough as a RB or midfielder. How Pep perseveres with him I don't know because right now he's a mid table championship player at best.
probably because we really dont have a better option at present..if more of our centre halves were fit Khusonov may well beplaying at right back at present.

He's got no pace. He makes mistakes then does a few good things. Teams bully him. He's certainly not a right back. Pep seems to love square pegs in round holes. Pep no doubt likes Rico's level of effort, but that is not enough. Hopefully the club wake up and smell the coffee and get a right back with skill/pace and a left back with skill/pace rather than playing people out of position. It's so obvious. Really frustrating. I want Rico to do well and then he does something shit....

Not a scapegoat by any means, but he’s never good enough in a month of Sundays. He was a big problem for us yesterday as he’s supposed to be the one becoming the extra body at times in midfield, but just offers nothing.

Championship player at best.
Interesting article popped up this morning about his stats from yesterday and they don't look good.

He's struggling in a team who have have fallen off the face of a cliff and he stands out. However so do Foden, KdB, Gundogan and others.

Pep obviously likes the lad and sees something in him.

difference is with KDB and Gundo is know why...the age factor is huge and this happens with elite players - when they lose it its really noticeable....
Foden - no idea what is going on...Ive said this a few times but there were rumours about trouble in his personal life at the start of the season as well as the supposed injuries. ...however again we know that Foden has that quality necessary.

With Rico Ive never ever been convinced that he is that elite player needed for the role he is playing - not even close

He dealt with Mitoma reasonably well, however on the ball he has become a mess which used to be one his strengths. It's clearly a confidence thing. He's a useful player to have around but obviously won't be used as much next season.

I'd sooner have Geoff Lomax at right back than Rico Lewis, I was speaking to a red the other week and he mentioned Lewis wouldn't even get into their team which says it all. Not good enough yet he's the young player who seems to be the favourite with the manager, truly bizarre.

We all want local lads to succeed and wear the shirt with distinction but this lad simply isn’t good enough. He has had a lot of chances and hasn’t shown any signs of improvement. Previous seasons he was protected By those around him but now we have regressed it’s becoming apparent just how far below the mark he is.
