Personally I was sad to see the reaction in the pub in Wembley when the team was announced.
Lewis lost possession once, beaten in a challenge twice, played a range of accurate passes, and quietened 38000 Forest fans.
I am not sure why People question Pep, Do they really think he would play a pony in a Stallions game.
Pep knew all of this was going to happen of course....

Lewis has been crap this year, he's not alone but nearly every other appearance has seen him anonymous in the game and bullied on and off the ball. He's barely kicked a ball in the past month so you might forgive other fans for thinking wtf is Pep doing in a cup semi against a very strong forest side.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am sure you were moaning in front of the Tele, "Lewis fuckin shit", " WtF" " "Pep fuckin he'll, cost us the game"

But after 2 minutes were you spouting the same nonsense, or did you think

" Fuck, Pep might know something about football."

He's a boo boy , good and proper.
For a section of football fans they need one. Makes them feel better, especially if they can get the support of their mates.

Did you think Lewis was fantastic on Sunday ?

He looked good in the role that he should play for us moving forward. Not quick or strong enough to be a right back or an 8, but he has shown promise when he drifts forward from those positions and we're moving the ball around on the edge of the opposing box. He's not going to be our first choice 10, but could be a good rotation/sub option.

I find this perspective about a 20-year-old player absolutely bizarre. In world football, there are so few players of his age playing at the highest levels, with years of development ahead of them. Even if we just take strength, players at 25 are, generally, significantly stronger than they were 5 years earlier.

Yeah, my view pretty much. I certainly don’t “need a boo boy”, but I have been consistently critical of him, simply because I’ve not seen him play very well very often. But after the weekend, and if he keeps that up, then as you say as a midfield utility squad player he might have a role. I do think judging him off that one game against that opponent, or the odd game earlier in the comp against lower league opposition, is insufficient evidence.

But as I said after the game, it was brilliant to see him fire that one in on Saturday. I’ve seen him fail to score with a lot of his goal attempts in the past but that was fabulous; quick thinking, cool and composed :-)

Obviously still early for him, but I just don't see him as a PL right back given how ruthless and physical the wingers can be. I think he's better suited not having to worry about tracking up and down the flanks and his tidiness with the ball in tight spaces suits him better further up and in the middle.

Like all players there is a mixture of strengths and weaknesses.
My point is there is a history of certain posters writing players off and then being proved totally wrong.
They are often the same people.
David Silva was written off on here in 2018, then incredulously it was Rodri. Too slow, couldn't turn in the channel etc.
These posters seem to have no shame, they return to do the same trick on another player.
These people would have sold Rodri for 30 million, Silva on a free , John Stone for 10 million.
Pep picked Lewis for a specific role both defensive and attacking on Sunday.
A masterstroke, nullified their counter attack philosophy, and created space for Bernado and Kosovic.
Having an opinion about a player and getting it wrong is forgivable, some of these clowns are serial offenders.

If a player is not good enough, or has the wrong attitude pep will get rid, he doesn't keep pony's.

Your first five words are spot on.
Almost anything is possible. He is already skilled, with good technique, tidy on the ball, good in tight spaces and has demonstrable leadership skills.
He could develop his physical stature - pace and strength. He could be more decisive in front of goal.
As @asahartford1 says, he is a blend of strengths and development areas, like most young people.

He is also being judged in a 'failing' side, one that features other 'failures' including KDB, Bernardo, Gundogan, Dias, Grealish, Nunes, et al.

If I had his strengths, at 20, I would be walking about the city like King Dick.

The underrated leadership skills were so evident Sunday, and clearly reveal a deep understanding of peps philosophy at a tender age.

Rico is a promising fast midfielder, capable of tracking back and occasional goals. He has been forced to play out of position due to injuries to Rodri, Ake, Akanji, Dias, Walker walking out etc etc. Some here seem to demand we sign expensive incomers when the talent we already have is obvious, I would be surprised if we sign more than two or three this summer, and maybe Walker, Phillips and one other might leave. Some forget we still have a great squad, and the new signings in January plus the return of Bobb, Haaland, Rodri, Ake, Akanji etc etc means the future is bright. Losing the King was inevitable, I can only think the club have identified a nailed-on successor, even though a fully-fit Foden would go a long way to solving that. Main thing is to get a decent right back and a goalie with the same ability as Eddie. Don’t let either of our goalies go unless we can get someone at their level. At most, I think we might need three really good players, and personally would want to keep the current squad minus Walker, KdB and Scott Carson, who I hope will be kept on as a GK coach.

I think a lot (not all) of the criticism comes from people stuck thinking about how positions worked 20 years ago.

Same with all the "we must buy a right-back", after the years of "we must buy a left-back" and playing midfielders there. Years that brought us a ton of trophies!

Pep and City don't particularly think about positions in that traditional manner. They look at skillsets and how they can use them. Rico is fantastic in tight spaces and helping us progress the ball from defence into more attacking situations. In fact I'd go so far as to say there arent many better at it.

But hey, if he misplaces one pass or gets tackled once, then "he's shite", "get rid".

I was at the game, thanks. Maybe you were sat on your arse in front of the TV.

Yeah you're right, I was thinking wtf is Pep doing playing a lad with zero form and game time in the past month in arguably our biggest game of the season. Not a single person but him in their starting line ups and it's for good reason.
Pep isn't infallible you know.

After 2mins, I saw him score a good goal. What more is there to say?

"fantastic"
hahah, give it a rest.

The closest any City player came to that was probably Kovacic.

We weren't good on Sunday, let's be honest. On another day Forest might put three or four past us whilst we created fuck all, did Selz make a save of note other than kicking one off the line?

Making it sound like you were putting a shift in. Thanks for getting us to the final, I guess.
I understand why he's saying it, though. The other guy claiming that people get a hard on bullying players online or need to do it to feed their egos is just as ridiculous.

That said, decmancity is objectively right about everything else. People are now acting like Lewis single-handedly carried us to the final. Yes, it was a fantastic goal but let’s be realistic. We didn’t play well and were lucky to come away with a 2–0 win.

No offence intended to decmancity, just the wording tickled me.

I would usually say the hyperbole on both sides doesn't help anything. But here's the thing though, not one person has said Rico Lewis single handedly carried us to the final.

Whereas the regular dollop of tedious twats on here have actually been digging him out week after week after week, even off the back of a game like Sunday, where his goal did, in fact, play a fucking monumental part in taking us to the final.

"Worst player is the league" is the kind of shit that has been said about Rico in recent months. And some of the cunts on here love it.

I know he's had a shit season, you know he's had a shit season, he knows he's had a shit season. There's valid criticism and praise for the lad but this has just turned into one of "those threads" where certain people are trying to feed their egos.

One of the main detractors on here has been slating Rico since he first appeared for ten minutes in a preseason friendly against Bayern when he was 17. And he got called out for it. Since then he's been like a dog with a bone.

And that's why this forum has gone downhill. It's predominantly a bunch of attention seeking, lonely old men trying to bait people, as well as a revolving door of narcissistic johnny-come-latelys, who will claim to know more about football than not only this entire forum but Pep Guardiola himself, despite never setting foot in any football stadium, let alone ours.

And the worst part is they're entitled to be cunts but we're not entitled to point out that they are cunts. Their cuntishness just sits there as something that could be perceived as vaguely representative of what our fan base thinks or feels.

So, yeah, I'm rambling. But, in short, Rico had a very good game (his first in a long time) and had a direct impact on the score. If you want to debate specifically how good his performance was then go for it but the important part, for me, is that it's a potential turning point in the young career of an undeniably talented player.

This is maybe better written, but it's still a lazy take that leans on insulting posters instead of actually engaging with the points being made.

Not everyone who's criticised Rico is doing it out of spite or ego. Plenty of people have valid concerns about his form this season, just like many were quick to praise him after Sunday. It’s possible to recognise that he had a great moment without pretending the criticism was all unfair or baseless.

The conversation gets nowhere like you said. Most of us want him to succeed though (why wouldn't you as a City Supporter?).

I actually think he didn't play all that differently on Sunday than he has all season - it's just that scoring a goal and us winning, certainly changes the narrative.

Was the same for Nunes against Villa - the crowd chanting his name when half have probably been slagging him most of the season. C'est la vie, c'est City.
