82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

His current situation is a bit bizarre. I don’t rate him at all and we could/should have sold him in the summer and gotten decent money for him. We didn’t and instead gave him a new contract. He’s the only recognised RB at the club any yet seemingly finds himself behind 2 x CBs and a midfielder for the position.

Against Brentford, as much as I dislike Rico, I think that he'll be the prefered starter at RB. Because we're the better side, and Brentford no longer aggressively press as much as they used to - and hence we'll settle into a possession-based game.

Rico is better than Nunes going forward - but not exceptional in this regard. Nonetheless, I think that Rico's offensive ability and better ball control will outweigh Nunes' far better defensive abilities -given that we're likely to face a low block Brentford for most of the game.

That said, there's every chance though that a counter-attacking Brentford will take advantage of Lewis to our detriment.

Played the full game against Huddersfield, and while I think every such player in this sub-forum attracted comment, not one person said anything about Lewis. Never sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing.

Must be nice for him to come on here, and not be getting ripped to pieces.
Come on... are any City players so self-absorbed that they create an account on this site simply to watch what members of this site think?

Anyhow...

As long as we are playing non-right backs at right back - with the attendant problems at learning the position - I like Lewis at RB against sides that are going to park the bus - provided that we have cover for long balls over the top as will inevitably occur. Or failing that, that our press is fast enough to prevent most such passes. On this account - it's largely hit and miss at this point - IMO Pep is still working out what works best.

You'd be surprised!
