87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

I have no idea if McAtee is good enough cause he simply hasn't played.

But, no issue if Pep & the staff thinks he won't cut it here and we move on. But I think they have to make that call one way or the other (if they haven't already).

They can't keep saying they we want him to stay, keep him, and then have him warm the bench every game. Either play him or move him on. Right now the club is just cockteasing him, especially considering how essentially the entire first team midfield is either injured or in poor form.

It seems to me that Pep is damned if he does dammed if he doesn't. If for instance he would have played Rico Lewis more in the treble season and brouught a few more of the academy kids in and it went tit's up and we didn't win the treble that season then Pep would have got lambasted by us same last season with Oscar Bobb, he could have played him more but we might not have won the league for the fourth time on the trott. He probably could have brought more young players through although I have been told by a former coach, at the Academy, that he has from day one been under enormous pressure from the board to win as much as possible and he has delivered that in spades. He probably feels that the more younger Academy players he has in the side the less chance he has of achieving what we have achieved.

After his impressive, albeit brief, cameo against Leicester, he must be in with a serious shout of a starting berth tomorrow.

Pep's been sticking with form is temporary but class is permanent over this tough period. But McAtee came on, showed great form and helped us seal the three points. Others still aren't showing their class, and there's no better way of forcing them to find it than sticking them on the bench for others who are delivering. He's deserving of a start, and should have had a lot more minutes already. But I fully expect him to return to the bench.

This season we’re not winning the league and haven’t been for weeks yet he’s continued to play old, slow injured and out of form players that have racked up loss after loss and not utilised youthful players. This is the main gripe and frustration.

And Pep is probably right to think like that. This season however he has perhaps been playing tired and injured players in preference to McAtee or until the last day reluctant to bring him on around the hour mark. Not sure he will ever become a first team regular at City but he may be better than a few who appear to be ahead of him in the pecking order. This perhaps is indicative of were we are at the minute.
