87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

It seems to me that Pep is damned if he does dammed if he doesn't. If for instance he would have played Rico Lewis more in the treble season and brouught a few more of the academy kids in and it went tit's up and we didn't win the treble that season then Pep would have got lambasted by us same last season with Oscar Bobb, he could have played him more but we might not have won the league for the fourth time on the trott. He probably could have brought more young players through although I have been told by a former coach, at the Academy, that he has from day one been under enormous pressure from the board to win as much as possible and he has delivered that in spades. He probably feels that the more younger Academy players he has in the side the less chance he has of achieving what we have achieved.
Not the same. That treble winning side was flying after Christmas. The team basically picked itself. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". It certainly is broke this season. It looks like it's one season too far for several of them. In that case, you surely have to look at what alternatives you have. McAtee, O'Reilly and Wright must be worth having a look at. If it doesn't work, so be it. But you have to find out, don't you?

I would have given Wright a go at 6 but there must be a reason why Pep doesn't fancy him. Pep for me has so much credit in the bank that I think he is allowed to have an off season this season and be allowed to go again next season and build us another younger squad like he did in 2017.

He's under 30!

;-)

To be fair Jimi each time I've seen Jacob Wright play he looks to have a bit about him and like you say he can't be worst than Gundo, who is obviously past his best especially in a position that he doesn't normally play in.
I was delighted to see Gundo coming back; I think, like many, I expected the 2023 Gundo. But it just hasn't worked out, he's played way more games than he should have due to the Rodri injury. And he hasn't got the legs for that any more.

I too was delighted to have him back but like you say it hasn't worked out but he will always be a legend of this club.

Should be starting today & it’s a bit silly he isn’t. Part of him must be thinking I’m never going to play & it’s time to move on
