87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

Hope he starts tonight.

I've said with a few players, the CL is a great stage for players to make a name for themselves and get used to being a first team player. Slower pace and a lower bar for fouls so you can go and express yourself and gain confidence that can transfer to the league. A few fringe players have impressed in the CL and its been a platform for them, hopefully the same with James. His workrate and movement can't be questioned and I think he's very good at mixing his tempo up. Just needs to make sure he gets on the ball more as he was repeatedly ignored against Spurs and other than one lovely turn to break forwards didn't get involved much.

Just don’t see where McAtee will get proper opportunities, he won’t come on unless 3-0 up, he can barely get game time in an injury crisis, and isn’t trusted when we’re chasing a game and needing something different

He needs to take his opportunity when it comes. Issue with McAtee is a confidence thing and we can't wait for him to suddenly realise his abilities.

If current Gundogan, in this form, is coming on ahead of him he has no chance at City. Hopefully it won't be Palmer mkII when he gets sold next summer.

I think it's more a matter of Pep having a confidence thing around McAtee.

McAtee is in the first team squad and, as such, should be getting more opportunities. If not, he should ask for a move.

Other than Rico, Pep seems to be scared of playing our academy players. Even Foden was held back too long imo.

Feyenoord game up next for him imo as said earlier. then a long wait and Brugge end of January. but if he is happy with this role and learns in trainings thats fine. all that praise Pep had for him about being fantastic in the pockets etc, but nowhere near ready to be risked in a game thats not Watford or Slovan Bratislava, yeah it says a lot.

Also Echeverri might arrive and takes playing time straightway.

McAtee did mention at the start of the season he might not get the game time but he is staying for the experience of being part of City's squad. Perhaps he would of got more of a chance if Rodri was fit and there were little less pressure currently surrounding the team. Just like the rest of our youngsters they are still learning the game.
