He's phenomenal. It's a sign of of how brilliant he is that yesterday was considered a tepid performance; yet he still bagged.

Also, can somebody explain to me why "tap-in merchant" is used as a slight against strikers? Erling has been tapping home staggering numbers for Salzburg, Dortmund, Norway, and now us. If it were that easy why doesn't every other striker in the league have close to his numbers yet? It's because he is bonafide world-class. The tap ins are a result of perfect positioning and predatory instincts; a combination only a select few forwards possess. Look at the goals Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Benzema, et al have scored throughout their careers. Hundreds of them will be "tap ins". A striker continually dropping deep to bang them in from thirty yards isn't doing his job properly.

Still can't believe he's ours. Gonna cherish every minute he's with us.

Amazingly Garth Crooks has Haaland in his Team of the Week and then proceeds to damn him with faint praise....

Erling Haaland (Man City)

Everything he touches at the moment seems to fly into the back of the net. His goal against Wolves at the weekend was a mishit, and much was made of his finish against Borussia Dortmund in midweek; some even dared to compare it to Johan Cruyff's goal against Brazil in 1974. It wasn't in the same class, never mind the same competition. Haaland's late winner against his old club in the Champions League, while vital in Manchester City's quest to lift the elusive European title, was a scruffy lunge in a desperate attempt to make contact with the ball. Cruyff's, on the other hand, was a brilliantly controlled side-foot volley as the player remained upright and suspended in mid-air. Admittedly, goals are goals, but some are better than others.

LMFAO !

It was none other than Joseph Guardiola himself who said Erling's goal reminded him of Cruyff's. I really don't think a no mark like Crooks should be questioning one of Cruyff's disciples who is himself one of the greats of the game.

That’s sort of pass is on for him half a dozen times a game and we have been extremely reluctant to pass it to him.

There’s a goal a game for him from exactly the type of situation he scored from yesterday! I’d argue that Erling is most dangerous in situations like yesterday’s goal, driving towards the target.

Just got to give him the ball when he’s in space, early.

Yeah a lot of people were saying that he wouldn’t score that many in England because he won’t get the space to be driving towards the goal or running in behind like he did in the Bundesliga, because really that’s what is main strengths had been.

Obviously he’s made a mockery of that and scored all kinds of goals (which he always has), but yeah he’s arguably at his most dangerous if you can get the ball to him early with space to
run into.

Crooks is a hard person to like; he’s been used by the bbc for many years, meeting the institutional quota that was missing, and retained his spot, despite having the insight of a South American cave bat… thankfully this has evolved for the greater good and he’s close to being put out to pasture

Pep compared it to Cruyff’s goal against Athletico. And as usual, Pep was correct - it’s almost a mirror image of Haaland’s late winner Vs Dortmund.
