9 | Erling Haaland - 2023/24

Kdb and foden does not get the space they found tonight if haaland isnt on the pitch.

When teams put all their efforts into shutting down haaland like tonight, he's already had a good game even if he doesn't touch the ball all game.

we essentially sacrifice haalands individual impact to gain a man advantage everywhere else on the pitch. It's such a potent weapon.

Pep's playing a chess game with him, sacrificing our king to leave their queen wide open to take the game.
And he still manages to get 3 or 4 chances a game that he should put away.

I've noticed that he still doesn't quite time his jumping for headers right. He'll improve, but needs to work on it.
That spectacular goal that he attempted in the first half, yes it would have utterly incredible if it had gone in (rather like the Dortmund goal), but all he needed to do was jump, chest it down, frankly, and slot it in with either foot. Very quiet first half, markedly better second half. It doesn't matter that he doesn't always score. His hold-up play and lay-offs have both improved hugely since he's been with us.

I'm a fan of his despite what some on here say, but some of the excuses made for him in comparison to others are fucking comical. He's one of the highest-paid players in the world. He needs to be better. In his defense, he's got a strong track record, but if he were a striker out of our academy, there's ZERO chance that people would be as kind as they're being. That's undeniable.

If we had an academy player with Haaland's goal record, they'd be the most praised player in the history of this forum. Even including nights when they miss their chances.

This year, yes. Last year, he was getting three half-chances and something that was no chance at all for any ordinary human being and putting all four away. Got a feeling he's going to start scoring shedloads towards the end of the season.

Yea last year he was so clinical, hoping he gets back to that level.

Come on mate, you've been unfairly harsh in your criticism of him (and Kev for that matter)

Erling's been out injured for the last two months so it will take a few weeks to get back up to full game speed and he's still young!
But he's the best striker in the World, and even though he's been injured he still leads the league in goals scored this season.
His goal record, technique, power and pace are second to none in the position at the moment and his presence alone scares the shit out of defences.
Yeah he could do better on occasions, but he scored two great goals on Saturday and had some chances tonight, but there is no-one who's ever played who doesn't miss chances, so as your mean't to be a fan, you need to cut him some slack imo.
