He averages basically a goal a game. What are you on about?
He might well average a goal a game, but he’s goalless in 43% of his games.
He scores in streaks with a lot of braces/hattricks/+ in a short period, especially at the start of seasons, followed by baron or much lower scoring spells.
This isn’t a criticism of Haaland. My point is that this season’s streaks of goals followed by spells barely scoring is normal for him.
At the start of each season, Erling has scored:
11 goals in the first 8 games
(2019-20, Salzburg)
10 goals in the first 7 games
(2020-21, Dortmund)
7 goals in the first 5 games
(2021-22, Dortmund)
15 goals in the first 10 games
(2022-23, City)
8 goals in the first 6 games
(2023-24, City)
7 goals in the first 3 games
(2024-25, City)
Then across the same seasons, Erling has had this many goalless games and runs without a goal (this excludes all games he was rested or out injured):
14 goalless games out of 40. No more than 2 games without a goal.
(2019-20, Salzburg+Dortmund)
17 goalless games out of 41. No more than 2 games without a goal.
(2020-21, Dortmund)
13 goalless games out of 30. With one run of 5 games without a goal.
(2021-22, Dortmund)
21 goalless games out of 53. He scored just 1 goal in all comps in his last 8 games in the run to the treble.
(2022-23, City)
22 goalless games out of 45. 3 games without a goal once, 4 games without a goal once.
(2023-24, City)
15 goalless games out of 28. 3 games without a goal twice, 4 games without a goal once.
(2024-25, City)
He’s had 102 goalless games out of 237 club games since 2019-20… 43%.
