I mean it might help if we start providing him with some service. It's just one of the many things we've stopped doing like pressing, passing with movement off the ball etc. The list is bleeding endless at the moment.

Also might help if we had other threats and goal scoring wingers.. who make him not seem like the lone threat!

They have so many games where they just refuse to play it to him centrally. It has to be crossed in after waiting for the defence to get back.

Imagine how insane his numbers would be if he had a David Silva or KDB type fully healthy all season. Or even having 2 fast wingers like Sane and Sterling who could get to the line and square it.

He would get 40+ league goals in the 17/18 team.

Sterling and Sane would've had de Bruyne assist numbers if either of them stayed long enough.

He would have scored between 40 and 45 goals, with the kind of service these four offered that season.
Our wings and midfielders today are incomparable to the offensive force we had then.

Watching the Barca- Atletico game and it shows you the importance of having a backup striker, Sorloth (another Norwegian) came off the bench and won the game for Atletico and he's done that so many times for them this season off the bench, I know I'm constantly repeating it but the stupidity of selling Alvarez and expecting Haaland to do the job by himself was outrageous arrogance, if Txiki wasn't leaving anyway he should've been sacked for it because it was the final straw of what has been crap decision after crap decision in the transfer market over the last two seasons.

Selling Alvarez, signing Mubama from WHU who was on the released list at WHU.

Khaldoon hopefully has a word with Txiki, I kind of agree he would be moved into an easier CFG role if he had not retired. as a sporting director forward planning on transfer and squad building is crucial. Phillips, Nunes, losing Palmer, losing Alvarez. this is the equivalent on squad building level as our last two months of results. its ok to sell players who want to leave. but replacing them with even better is an option, replacing them with just as good also and option but not replacing them, or replacing them with worse is something we decided to do.

he’s a goal machine with decent service and that’s where it stops. His work rate is absolutely pathetic

It’s a nice thought and I would certainly welcome more variation in our play, which is chronically lacking right now, but the team isn’t fit enough to play on the counter.

How many of our players are capable of breaking at pace? Haaland can, Doku scored a good goal against Forest on the break, Bobb when he’s back. That’s pretty much it.

The beauty of the 17/18 team was that we did have that pace and we could vary our play, which made us more potent and exciting to watch. Napoli away for instance was one of my favourite ever games.

Now we’re slow and ponderous going forward, even slower when running backwards and teams can beat our press with ease and get straight through us.

We undoubtedly need new players but above all we need a different type of player so that we can mix our play up.
Like you said, Centurions was brilliant because they could beat you any way they wanted. For the last couple of seasons, we’ve been too slow and pragmatic. Desperately need some pace and the ability to soak up pressure to then counter at speed.

Haaland 24/25

A little trivia and comparison, in addition to the desperate season of the entire team, from defense to attack, I think that Haaland, even with all the lack of help from his teammates, could match Aguero's best season in Man City.

Aguero 2014/15 after 17 rounds = 14 goals

Haaland 2024/25 after 17 rounds = 13 goals

I think the Norwegian Bob Taylor joined in the game about twice yesterday,,once where he sprinted in a loop and clattered the villa lad in the face before returning to his shift of walking football ,
Never seen so a big lad not put himself about and any time served centre half easy contains and schools him .
Maybe he dosnt get the service he wants bit neither do other prem strikers but they get involved and make a contribution and make things happen for themselves.

We're not playing to his strengths at all. This wouldn't be a glaring issue if others were contributing with goals, but they're not. I don't buy this bollocks that he's lazy and lacks desire. On several occasions yesterday he busted guts to get the ball back off Villa, particularly in the second half when their midfield was taking the piss out of us. In the closing stages of the game he collected the ball 40 yards from goal and tried taking on the entire Villa defence himself; none of his teammates burst forward to support him. That illustrated how fucked off and desperate he'd become; he's a predator, and we're not even throwing scraps, nevermind balls to feast on.

He's the best striker of his generation, and we'll lose him if we're not careful.

True respect for a City player - try making it onceaseason if you feel that badly ?

I know it’s dire but he just doesn’t look like even having a shot at the moment let alone score. I’d try anything to try to break this dreadful form.
I totally agree.
Foden, KDB, Godogan , Silva have all scored regularly in the past.
Savinho and Doku have potential.
With the current system none of them are getting even a sniff of a chance.

Our play was described as “meandering possession” “orderly control but random and pointless”

That sums it up for me. It’s dull, robotic and lacking in any sort of flair currently. What worked in the past isn’t working in the present.

it’s almost a case of if you keep doing the same things then don’t be surprised if you get the same outcome. That is us at the moment.
