9 | Erling Haaland - 2024/25

You all know I'm not his biggest fan, and I maintain we're a better team without him, but he was well up for it tonight and let down massively.

We would be bottom half without his goals this season.

We wouldn't be a better team without him right now because a lot of our current forward players offer very little these days, they wouldn't make up the goals you would lose without him.

You could certainly make a case that previous City teams when Haaland wasnt here were better or played better football, but this 2025 team are not better without him. We would be a low scoring team with no midfield and not much of a defence.

Not with this current team. Who is gonna score make up for his goals? Jack with his two a year? Phil who is really nowhere near his best? No legs Kev? Old Gundo? Bernado whose been missing for a year or so now? Savinho who doesn't look like much of a goalscorer yet?

Previous teams, possibly yes. This team, no.

Why is this so shocking to some? Look at our teams from 17/19 through 21/22. Yes, I know we won the treble with Erling leading the line, but that was clearly the exception, with everyone peaking at the perfect time. Literally every underlying team metric has regressed since his signing, even in said treble season.

Yeah, but look at the squad and players since then. KDB past it, Bernie a shadow, Gundo finished. Grealish never fit, Walker finished, Dias injured loads, Ederson injured and terribly out of form and Mahrez gone. You think this drop off is down to Haaland?

It's not a Haaland problem, it's the replacement of players that have left us or not replacing them.

Put any other striker in there instead of him and you would see the same issues

This is silly. Winning the Treble and 4 in a row the next season is superior to anything before that, as it's utterly difficult to maintain, let alone raise, your level after two successful seasons, i.e. 20/21 and 21/22 in which we won the title and other trophies. Without Haaland the Treble and 4 in a row would have been impossible.
