With our tactics and the players around him, he just doesn't fit in anymore. The midfielders have no interest playing the ball in behind and the wingers are just too dumb to know when to put a cross in and have such poor end product that they won't find him with a cross anyway. Not to mention we play low blocks over half the time so his strengths are pretty much nullified.

While I sorta agree with this, I have 2 counterpoints.

1) He got no chances.

This has been said alot for Haaland, but the best strikers do something to get good chances and Im not seeing enough of that from him.

2) His inclusion changed us away from the false striker system that was seemingly working, so why change that now?

i dont care whether he played up front or not, I’m just saying we are a better team with Marmoush in the side over Haaland.
The way we play completely changes with EH in the team

Nobody fits our style, stick a false 9 in there instead of haaland today and thr game plays out exactly the same, there's just an extra man to pass the ball sideways outside of the box. It's not a case of haaland bot fitting our style, it's our style is fucking garbage hence why we're struggling to finish in the top 5 and it's criminal that we don't supply the best striker on the planet.

Well yea no one is doing anything up front with the state we're in. Just keeping it specific to Haaland because this is his thread after all and burden of responsibility for the way we're playing is falling on the manager's shoulders.

He's under instructions to be in the box, what do you want from him? The game was played almost exclusively in their final 3rd, our slow build up means there's never any option to run in behind and we don't play the ball if there is so there only other option is for him to start dropping to thr edge of the box to do what? Pass it out wide and then not be in thr box if the ball does make it's way there? He's shown he can play as a target man, run the channels and hold up the ball, he has done it brilliantly more than once against arsenal we just actively choose not to use him in that way, he can't decide the tactics the manager uses.

Has the false 9 worked? We were just as useless away to united without haaland. Against Everton we got 2 very late goals after creating virtually nothing like today, against villa we needed a goal with the last kick of the game to pinch a win, wolves was an unconvincing 1-0 where they were the better side for most of the game, forest we were fortunate, palace was the only convincing win and that was after coming from 0-2 down when it really should have been 0-4 before we scored.

Our system hasn't changed with or without haaland, and that's the problem, we've got the best finisher in the world in the box and still play like we haven't got a striker.
 
Marmoush hasn't even played upfront for us so don't understand why people are making the link, they should be playing together.

You don't care you're comparing 2 players playing in entirely different positions? Marmoush inclusion or not in thr side isn't dependent on Haaland in the same way it's not Ederson or Haaland. How does the way we play change with haaland? Played exactly how we have done all season both with and without haaland, the fact the style doesn't change is the problem.

We haven’t been great recently. The results have papered over the performances. We were absolute dross at United and Everton for 75 mins and we were wank again today.

Forest, Villa, Everton , Palace are all considerably better than Southampton and we won them all. What more do you want. Southampton are shite.
Maybe the system doesn’t change but Marmoush contributes so much more .
The same thing happened last season . We won 10 on the trot with Alvarez in team when Haaland was injured.

We also drew 0-0 away to the worst united side in living history with marmoush and without haaland. We beat forest with a goal from our fullback and a corner and a shit tonne of fortune, we beat villa with the last kick of the game from our fullback. We beat Everton with 2 late goals from our fullback and holding midfielder, palace was the only game we played well and that was after going 0-2 down and it really should have been 3 or 4 and game over within 30 minutes.

You're offering a narrative that we've been playing well recently and today was somehow drastically different because of haalands inclusion. That's not remotely true, today in rhe main wasn't any different to those games in our approach.

The main difference to all those other teams... is they arent southampton.

This team has a tendency to always suck against United, they were particularly shit.

But none of those games would I blame Pep (barring some halfs in some of those games), id say the players should have done better.

Even if you wouldnt describe those narratives as playing "well", it was atleast better than today... against one of the worst prem sides in years.

The stats are on your side. That today had nothing to do with Haaland starting though. It was the lack of any other players starting who can go past a man or have any pace.

Yeh, I am beginning to wonder whether Pep has lost his touch.
We are so far off the top teams in Europe. It can’t be all down to Rodri.
