9 | Erling Haaland - 2025/26

Didn`t Rodders play something like 67/70 games two seasons ago and he rightly complained that too many games were being played in a season.
Havn`t the world footballers unions taken FIFA to task over this.Footballers should go on strike against FIFA for the ridiculous amount of shit competitions that are flooding the market.
Indeed. Gvardiol and Haaland should have been on the lightest of duties at this charabanc.

Those three are the spine of the team, but we seem intent on piling the weight on their backs, having them buckle under the pressure, and then looking all surprised when it happens.

But when they are sat in negotiations with agents demanding hundreds of thousands per week, they can’t really complain, these tournaments are helping pay their wages.

Maybe they should offer to go on pay as you play contracts, they’d stop moaning then and always be ready I bet.
I`m talking about International matches not club level games, hence my wording FIFA.

We really need to play to his strengths. I don’t care if it goes in off his arse, his shoulder or his shin as long as it goes in. But if we play the way we’ve played the last 18 months we may as well flog him because he looks bored, he doesn’t move like he did and he’s missing chances he’d have buried in the past.

His movement has been a little better in this tournament so hopefully it’s a positive sign and his arrogance will return.
Not going to happen mate . I thought this season would be different but don’t think pep will change anything and we will witness this shit pass pass pass again .

Despite being a phenomenal goal scorer I've never thought he's a good fit for us.

And the stats bear this out.

In the 3 league seasons prior to his arrival, one we didn't win, we scored 284 goals and conceded 93. In the 3 seasons he's been with us we've scored 276 goals and conceded 108.

Not huge differences but what is undeniable is that other players score less when he's around. And if he has an off day we are vulnerable.

I also think we were easier on the eye before he arrived.

On the plus side he's an excellent bloke and certainly contributes more than anyone to our world wide appeal.

With the last few transfer windows it appears we realized we needed faster transitions when we got the ball to get the most out of Erling, not only goals but his overall contribution, getting him less static.

However Pep doesn't seem to be totally on board with this. As we play as many games with the slow sideways passing as we do with the more direct Reinjders style.

Unpalatable maybe but with some truth to it.

regardless of the fact that last season he was out of form, injured and without a real service behind him, he again found himself on the list of the best goalscoring seasons played by Man City players throughout history.

That graphic does not show throughout history, it is the 21st century only

But he's still top and joint second if you do expand it to full club history

How can we find stats prior to 21st century
About goalscoring

he's not clean striking the ball very much this last 6 months. it's odd.
He’s on his heels because more often than not the ball doesn’t come in. It’s passed sideways or backwards from the edge of the box. There’s zero anticipation in his game anymore.

He does need to drop deeper in my opinion, but so do the rest of the team. Look at some of the goals he scored in his first season with us and for Dortmund before that. He makes 40 yard runs onto the ball, shoulders the defender out of the way and slots it past the keeper. He wants that and he wants purposeful crosses into the back post.

Now I’m all for players adapting, and I think he could’ve done more, but you don’t buy the most lethal goal scorer on the planet, pay him half a million notes every week and ask him to change his game. We have to build it around him or find a different type of striker, or play without one.
